The interesting thing about the proposals is that they concern themselves with secondary smoke. My understanding of this is that there is no measurable risk to others; the "science" which did demonstrate harm was appallingly bad and was conducted with the aim of deterring smoking. Two larger, proper, neutral studies previously (one of them by the WHO, no less) had shown no impact. It's all built on lies.

Nigel Farage has branded smokers the “heroes of the nation in terms of the amount of taxation they pay”, in response to a potential cigarettes ban outside pubs.

The Reform UK leader lit up a Benson and Hedges outside the Westminster Arms shortly before 6pm on Thursday, less than 400m from the Prime Minister’s official residence in Downing Street.

LOL! Nigel being based, as usual😂

Humans don't change, only the technology they use changes.

For the entire history of the human race---until recently---controlling populations by the power-hungry types was an analog thing. Spies, snitches, hardcopy propaganda, broadcast propaganda, and goon squads to deal with dissenters.

Today, ALL those functions can be performed at the touch of a button.

Result? Since tightening the screws is so easy, the power-hungry can't help themselves... Everything they CAN control, they WANT to control.

Without limit.

It's how they are wired.

The second hand smoke stuff has never been proven.

They've now moved on to "third hand smoke", whatever that means.

As one who is unfortunately resideing in one of most non tobacco friendly nanny state on earth, I can affirm You my Britons ,no person would enforce those idiotic laws if and when they will go into effect,at least thats the way things are here up in Scandinavia (Sweden&Finland) for many years, lots of noise little actions
A Shame ... you guys have some pretty tasty tobacco too !

I supported the ban on smoking inside pubs. To be honest that was a nasty business, the thick plumes of smoke would nearly blind a man. And that was when I smoked fags. But this is ridiculous and they can fuck right off with it. When this comes in, if I want to smoke in a beer garden, that's what I'll do. I get that my liberty ends where the next person's begins, but this isn't that. My liberty does not end when another person considers me a vulgarian. As I say, they can fuck off with that, and if it means I get barred from pubs, so be, let them suffer the loss of earnings.

I especially love the insane level of hypocrisy that is part of the Ban All Tobacco worldview.

The "for the greater good" argument the tobacco-exterminator types always fall back on somehow doesn't apply to electronic device / social media addiction that changes a growing human's kid's brain development---as in, permanently, in a bad way---or marijuana, which has also been proved to significantly interfere with brain development if used routinely before adulthood.

It's a de facto preemptive argument to nullify people saying "I know the pub has smoke in it, and I'm OK with that... I CHOOSE to go inside."

"Third hand smoke" is the collection of smoke molecules that unavoidably cling to pub patrons' clothes and are carried out the door with them when they leave, you see, to infect the rest of the world Johnny Appleseed-style.

I wish I was kidding.

It's just another example of the insane nanny state in the UK.

They're talking about bringing in laws about spreading "misinformation". Who decides what's misinformation and what isn't? The fuckers who are in charge, that's who. Free speech is dead and buried in the UK.

A little while back a mother was arrested in front of her children and locked in a cell for seven HOURS after calling a transgender woman a man on Twitter. I shit you not. Someone didn't like something that someone else had written on Twitter so they complained to the police. The cops went round to this woman's house and arrested her. Try getting your head around that mental illness.

There's recently been several high profile ThoughtCrimers in the news lately.

Hell, the PM himself has issued a direct warning that anyone taking action intended to reinforce disagreement with governmental policies will get you fast-tracked into prison.

Not just a threat either. He's already done it. (The legal hook/pretext was "giving offense", but no one is missing the message: Post---or even share someone else's post---online which criticizes government policy, and we're coming for you.)

I know, it's absolutely insane. Too many people are going along with it, as well. We're heading down the path to 1984.

I don't know. That looks awfully normal to me. A man with a pint and a smoke. Must be a upstanding member of the society.

Can't believe you guys still call it fag.
