I just saw this on the BBC. Britain is becoming unrecognisable. I'm horrified that our population seem to have no awareness of principles, particularly freedom and liberty. 'If I don't like it, then I don't care if it gets banned'. But then, I suppose given the shocking state of our education system, what can one expect?
Utter nonsense. The ship is sinking, what shall we do? Oh, let's grief smokers again, that'll fix it.
I will add that yesterday, in order to catch the best sunshine, I was puffing my pipe in a very public spot on the street. Several old codgers came up to express their approval of both the practice and the aroma. More secondhand smoke, please.

Good luck with policing it. Smoking on hospital grounds has been banned for years but you go to any hospital in the land and you'll see patients and their families having a ciggie by the entrance.
Not just the UK, either. I was reading that they're trying to push through a total ban of smoking in public in Florida.

I have no dog in the UK thing, but I do not equate cigarettes with pipes, and where I live the general populations doesn't either. Hell, Southerners don't even think of driving as having rules, just suggestions. I seem to be able to walk into a Starbucks with my pipe and never have a word spoken to me. So, It doesn't bother me that fewer places even sell cigarettes, nor whether those of low self-control continue to smoke them. Besides, that is in England. I hear that those people can't even drive on the right side of the road.
I'm just kidding of course. You can all just move down here. We don't even mind if you want to marry your sister.
To me, and my experience, cigarette issues don't carry over into pipe smoking. And, even if it did, so what? Like, you people all just do what is legal on the books? There's a difference between what is moral for you and what is legal. Just live your best life and let all that care be damned.

But unfortunately in the UK, smoking legislation does cover pipes and cigars. And because we're a nation of jobsworths and rule-followers, this will make it very difficult to continue to smoke outside. I think lots of people thought that people would bend the rules with the indoor ban (like they do in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium) but in the UK we stick to rules, depressingly. I'm sure there will be ways round it, like smoking areas just outside the beer gardens, but it still means I won't be able to have a pipe and a pint in a nice setting (or indeed, a pint and a fag). This will probably be the end of our pipe club, as we're only really able to meet in the local pub garden.

Honestly, when I smoke in public I stand off to the side somewhere, in an alley, not on the sidewalk, so I’m not blowing smoke in non-smokers faces, they don’t want to breathe it in and I don’t wanna force them too. When kids walk by I put my cigarette behind me so they can’t see it. People who blow a thick fog of their vape juice in my face when I’m walking down the street get a swift kick to the nuts. I see people with kids have to walk through clouds from people smoking dope and it’s just uncivil, unnecessary to blow any smoke into some child’s face and force them to walk through it and breathe it in. When I smoke outside I put out my butts and put them, get this, IN THE TRASH
. Those little butts are everywhere, like micro-plastic, people tossing em out windows starting forest fires. To quote George “T-Bone” Costanza, “WE’RE LIVING IN A SOCIETY! WE’RE SUPPOSED TO ACT IN A CIVILIZED WAY!” and too many shit people don’t give a damn about their fellow civilians or the environment or clean drinking water. Pipe smokers? Not even apart of that conversation. I’ve never seen another pipe smoker in public, I’ve never seen a pipe cleaner on the street, or beach, or park, or playground. The other day I watched a guy at the gas station smoking a cigarette in his car, ashing out the window, at the pump, while his missus was filling their truck, what you gonna do? Can’t fix stupid. Just ban cigarettes and vapes altogether and be done with it. No more crazy people asking me for a smoke every 20 seconds. No more homeless picking up butts out of the gutter to smoke. People can switch to pipes and cigars and there’ll be no more problems. Done. As for the universities, that’s just indicative of poor education systems built on money not brains. Lordy, I’m gonna go hack a dart now. Friggin’ humans.

There's arseholes in any group. There are also plenty of considerate cigarette smokers. This constant demonisation of cigarette smokers smacks to me of classism.

The Rule of Reason and Common Law is lost in Britain. Such a great Country to be ruined by the nanny state. And no one there seems to care. As much as I hate to say we have to stick up for the cigarette smoker. You'll have to defend them because you are all in this together.

As one who is unfortunately resideing in one of most non tobacco friendly nanny state on earth, I can affirm You my Britons ,no person would enforce those idiotic laws if and when they will go into effect,at least thats the way things are here up in Scandinavia (Sweden&Finland) for many years,lots of noise little actions
