I am a snob about the pipes I have and the tobacco I smoke, but I try and share that pleasure with my close friends by having these pipes made for them and giving them to them. other than that, I don't care what pipe or tobacco you smoke as long as it makes you happy. now if you are smoking a cheap blend because that is all you can afford and want to try something else or can't afford it, then I am all for helping that person experiencing something better.

I am not a pipe snob, all I smoke are S Bangs, I am not a Tobbaco snob, all I smoke is Nitecap, I detest Butane lighter snobs so I use my Acetylene torch to light em up. When I drink only the best, RC Cola, with Moon Pie.

I was lurking on this forum for almost two years and finally registered just few months ago. As a very fresh pipe smoker, I don't have much to contribute, but I was able to find answers on practically all my questions while going through the forum's posts. I think I learned a lot about tobaccos and pipes specifically from this place. Not that this forum needs to be defended or explained (snobbism usually have a negative cultural/historical connotations), but I don't see what you described as:
[I see on this and other forums folks that assume they are holier than thou because they smoke a certain type or blend that in their minds elevates them to some self imposed lofty tobacco position
Joyful and goodhearted exchanges and dialogues, amazing richness of some posts about history of tobacco /pipes, vibrant but civil atmosphere .. its what I see on this forum. I think most active participants and main contributors to this forum were actually able to build some sense of comradery and friendship. For the half-invisible "lurkers" as myself, I just enjoy this place quietly.

Take your time, don't rush to judge others, stay with this forum, and smoke more.

Toobfreak, you left out a group that I am a part of and it really upset me. You said the only two groups for fire are bic lighter guys and match whisperers.
I knew with a post that lengthy I was bound to offend somebody by leaving them out! Damn Zippo Bastards! :worship:
Seriously, you'd be surprised at where I can light a wooden match. There are ways of doing it. I learned to light them as a teen standing out on the open trestles of bridges overlooking rivers! Won't tell you though what it was I was trying to light.

I see on this and other forums folks that assume they are holier than thou because they smoke a certain type or blend that in their minds elevates them to some self imposed lofty tobacco position.

People also do this if what you smoke is not "common man" enough. The common ingredient is people.
Maybe instead of criticizing people for being elitists, we simply suggest a standard of politeness that does not include eye rolls and other pretentious behavior.
At the same time, now it is more important than ever to have a lively debate as to the merits of different tobaccos!

For all we know, a year from now, half the blends we are throwing around in discussion today might only remain in our memories to ponder or on the shelves of a few fortunate cellars!

I smoke what I want, when I want, where I want, and sometimes in my underwear. I don't care. I don't think anyone here has put me down for my choices either. But if you don't smoke Black Frigate, you're not a true pipe smoker....
just sayin

I think we are all overlooking the most pressing issue. That is, Toobfreak's avatar is on fire and has nearly consumed him. My question is... Will he burn down to a fine white ash?

I missed this on my first read of the OP. It really has me thinking and I think that it's correct. I am holier than thou because I do smoke better blends in better pipes and am perforce elevated to a very lofty position. However could I have missed this obviously transcendent Truth.
...but those of you who are in a self described special place because of your choices, knock it off.
And deprive humanity of the opportunity to bask in the reflected light of my Glory? Are you mad? It's my divine destiny to elevate the howling mob and provide deliverance from the miserable darkness in which they exist.
