This question is really targeted at the pipe smokers that only enjoy 2-3 bowls a week. Do you;
Open a tin of tobacco, jar it and smoke it before opening another. I find a tin last in the region of 5-6 weeks this way?
Or:
Open a tin smoke a bowl, jar it. Then repeat for different tobaccos and end up with many jars from which to choose?
I do the former in an attempt to build my cellar but also I'm a little paranoid about tobacco drying out.

I smoke way more but i think the basics are the same, do you live in a dry climate or humid, I live in FL .. sorry Florida, there could be a place named FL and I wouldn't want anyone confused, but being so humid I have 9 tins open and they just don't dry out so it's fine. I have 9 tins open and a couple dozen jars that i smoke from regularly, so i would really start with what's the humidly there and in your house, lots of AC means low humidity as well.

In Scotland me have a cold-mild climate that leads to low humidity levels.

I think in the end it's whatever makes you comfortable, how fast you'd be leaving tins sit with tobacco in them, if it's a couple weeks a well sealed tin will easily be fine, or even longer, again personal preference. The easiest thing would to be just jar it as you open tins and smoke out of the jars, well no out of a pipe, but you get it.

Oh man send me some Scotch…. Prices have been skyrocketing, less so in the UK, and I live in one of the most expensive places on earth for it Ontario, Canada, it’s even bad by Canadian standards, which are already bad, lol

I Jar about 6 at a time too, and then I have longer term jars that I don’t open. Although, I’ve opened a few lately and real improvements in a year or two. I live in a dry climate, in winter anyhow, and no issues with over drying in a year or two.

Only smoke on the weekends - usually 4 bowls per week
I have over 50 blends open.
No problems keeping the tobacco in their tins with the humidity in Sydney, Oz. Even after being opened 2-3 years.
I only jar up the ones in pouches or tins that don’t have a good seal.

95% of the time I'm pouring tobacco into my pouch from a can of Sir Walter Raleigh or a huge jar of Pegasus. In regards to other tobaccos I don't smoke a frequently, I live in southern Oregon so honestly it depends on the time of year. If it's fall or winter, humidity is high so I don't need to jar it, but our summers are so dry that I do when it's that time of year.

I don't follow "best practices" in an absolute way. If I think a blend will be around for a while, I'll jar it. But if I think I'll be smoking it right along until it's gone, I'll leave it in the tin or pouch. Blends in baggies I'll usually jar.

Tobacco keeps better than one thinks. Some drying is advantageous with most blends. Jars are usually the best option, but less rigorous storage often works just fine.

I'm aware this sounds haphazard and maybe lazy. Pipe smoking is an indulgence, and I want it to feel that way. Much of life is pretty duty bound, so I like to cut some slack where I can. If it leads to bad smoking, I'll make a correction.
