Whatever pipe tobacco you normally smoke. I mostly smoke Virginia Flake and break the majority of my pipes in smoking it. If the pipe hasn't a marvelous smoker of Virginia Flake, it may get signed to another blend.
I just load and stuff whatever I like. No rules. I smoke Virginias, VaPers & Burley.
Something you enjoy would be my suggestion. Something that give you an enjoyable smoke. No sense making smoking complicated.
Agree with all that has been mentioned. Smoke what you like otherwise why bother.
The advice given already is spot on. I would add something that is easy smoking for you. A blend that you consistently have good smokes with.

I try to keep my latakia pipes separate from my VA/VAPERs but that's about it. I don't smoke hardly any aros so on the rare occasion I do, it's in a cob.
I usually use burley, but I got my new Savinelli Clark's Favorite today and loaded it up with Pegasus. I didn't like the taste of the Pegasus so I loaded a second bowl with McClelland's 5100 Red Cake and WOW did it sing. Looks like this pipe will be dedicated to Virginias.
Nobody really ever talks about it because it's kind of a secret and nobody really wants to admit to it... but Captain Black ? & ? both can facilitate your breakin period. This is one of the reasons Captain Black is the world's number one selling pipe tobacco. ?
Penzance is the only appropriate blend to break in a new pipe. Plan on a minimum of 8 oz to do the job. If you don’t have any on hand, wait until you do. Anything else is just madness.

I always heard Cater Hall was the absolute best tobacco to break in a new pipe by building a solid cake. I would just smoke what you enjoy and lots of it.

I remember reading somewhere that Carter Hall or Prince Albert are good for this task. I tend to run a couple of bowls of PA through a pipe the first time for the simple reason that it tends to burn steady and consistent for me. I also just plain like it and it doesn’t tend to leave a ghost. I’m 100% positive that this is a placebo effect and that you can smoke any blend from the get go but I still do it.
I use the Lee Von Erck rule, stuff it to the top with whatever you like and smoke it!

If you say so. It's outlived many brands and blends and I buy it by the pound. Many fans here.
With the exception of a couple of the responses, all of your input was right in line with my thinking after watching a couple of YouTube vids. I appreciate the input!
