I have watched a couple YouTube videos and now want to hear from you experienced folks. What tobaccos do you suggest for using to break in a new pipe?

Penzance is the only appropriate blend to break in a new pipe. Plan on a minimum of 8 oz to do the job. If you don’t have any on hand, wait until you do. Anything else is just madness.

As has been said above, just smoke whatever you would normally smoke.

I always heard Cater Hall was the absolute best tobacco to break in a new pipe by building a solid cake. I would just smoke what you enjoy and lots of it.

I remember reading somewhere that Carter Hall or Prince Albert are good for this task. I tend to run a couple of bowls of PA through a pipe the first time for the simple reason that it tends to burn steady and consistent for me. I also just plain like it and it doesn’t tend to leave a ghost. I’m 100% positive that this is a placebo effect and that you can smoke any blend from the get go but I still do it.
