Seems to be the majority of the list, doesn't it?Artificial Tobacco Flavoring is one that stood out to me
I mean that's an actual flavor, as well as Tobacco Flavor. They both show up multiple timesSeems to be the majority of the list, doesn't it?
Special shoutout to Wood Fiber from Kimberly-Clark and Diamond Crystal Salt.
Indeed! Seems like they far outnumber the flavors like “anise” or “vanilla” or anything I was expecting.I mean that's an actual flavor, as well as Tobacco Flavor. They both show up multiple times
I once bought a 500 gram bag of GH “Latakia” that was most certainly not what we traditionally think of as we envision hands of Oriental leaf hanging in a smokehouse. I showed it to Russ O. and he agreed, albeit with the caveat “I guess it depends on how it’s processed”.Just as there is Perique that is "artificially derived" (see Three Nuns recipe elsewhere on this forum) there is also "artificially derived" Latakia (see Latakia flavor above). I remember a vigorous discussion on another forum with individuals emphatically denying the existence of such a thing.
Inneresting. GH generally doesn't come to mind when one talks about latakia mixtures. SG certainly ( Squadron Leader and all that), but GH no.I once bought a 500 gram bag of GH “Latakia” that was most certainly not what we traditionally think of as we envision hands of Oriental leaf hanging in a smokehouse. Who used to sell bulk in green and white paper bags? GH, right?Inneresting. GH generally doesn't come to mind when one talks about latakia mixtures. SG certainly ( Squadron Leader and all that), but GH no.
Yes, at least in the US, they did. With the blend name rubber stamped on.Who used to sell bulk in green and white paper bags? GH, right?
At the time, I was trying to educate myself on tobacco. I bought as many different samples as I could find. The stuff sold as “Latakia” varied widely. Then, I discovered that there were commercially available flavorings that were used in place of the real thing. Same with Perique.Yes, at least in the US, they did. I've a couple of ounces of GH latakia that I bought a few years back but have yet to smoke. Smells uniquely like a tar pit.
There’s a few, good ones too. Exmoor Mixture, Balkan Mixture, #12, #25 etc.Inneresting. GH generally doesn't come to mind when one talks about latakia mixtures. SG certainly ( Squadron Leader and all that), but GH no.
Yes, GH makes latakia mixtures. But I don't think it's known for them in the same way SG and the late lamented English companies like Dunhill, Sobranie, Ardath, etc. were. There’s a few, good ones too. Exmoor Mixture, Balkan Mixture, #12, #25 etc.
It's interesting you mention Gawith-Hoggarth because I have a jar of GH Latakia as well, and it is *real* (what I consider to be real, anyway) Latakia.I once bought a 500 gram bag of GH “Latakia” that was most certainly not what we traditionally think of as we envision hands of Oriental leaf hanging in a smokehouse.
