I find it strange that everyone clamors for the CD special releases but on Tinbids no one is ever bidding on Eight State Burley, Steamworks, and From Beyond. I don't understand this, anyone know what is going on there. It's also nice to see the Sutliff flippers getting no love. They will eventually win, but I'm loving the resolve of the greater community. Fist bump

My observations on tinbids recently is that they increased their commision on tins sold from 15% to 18.5% and the high bidder failed to pay 30% of the time. I had to relist some tins 3 times! Most of the bidders are from China.
Tinbids claims that they don't take non-payment lightly and ban those who don't pay, but my observations say otherwise.

I find it laughable at a lot of the auctions. The ones I saw where they were selling a 1 pound bag of something for double price, that you could still get on websites at normal prices made me laugh.
(And no they were not aged bags)
Lots of those going to China, they probably can't get it there, and even double prices are probably reasonable to them..........

Yup SP had beast in stock for al
The limited edition craze was entertaining for a few years but they're remaining in stock longer and longer each time. Nothing really worth paying any more than retail for. One of the last From Beyond releases remained in stock for nearly a month at SPC.
The beast was a day or so in stock at SP.
I only picked up 5 because I don’t think 51% perique is going to be something I smoke too much.
If nothing else I don’t have a good blending perique, I need a pound or so. I can always add some beast to count as my perique!

They don't focus on those C&D Small batch because those are all mostly bought up in the US, and are still in regular production, even if limited quantities.

Frog tins going for $300 a pop is crazy. They were $100 a pop a year ago. That was a bit much.

I had a conversation with Sykes about this. Yes, some remain in stock longer, some even as long as a few weeks. But, for the most part, the more exotic ones (exotic to their collection of blends) still sell out fast. It is usually the re-releases that linger for longer though, probably because those that are quick on the draw and get stocked up in the first run, still have some in their cellars by the second release.

I've tried bidding on Tinbids a few times. I can't get the hang of their auction mechanism. You can only advance a certain number of bids, you're top bidder as the clock counts down to 00:00, and then you find out (after the clock ends) that you lost.

Exactly HOW one wins a Tinbids auction is something that eludes me.

Not buying things at double the price and letting people think about their prior decisions for a bit. But like I said, eventually they will get what they want.
Yeah, “community” and standing on principle has nothing to do with this, IMHO. The is no monolithic block of pipe tobacco customers marching arm in arm for truth, justice and equitable pricing. It’s all supply and demand. Sutliff products, at this point in time aren’t in demand, and the market is saturated from all the hoarders pragmatic acquisitions.

Give it five years.

I just looked at Tin Bids for the first time a week ago. Selling tobacco isn't my thing, but apparently I am sitting on a considerable fortune. :)
Not just tins, but people are selling jars of bulk for obscene prices.
I have dozens of pounds of McClelland blends, Murray Dunhill, Vintage Syrian.....and a lot more.
But I won't sell a scrap. I prefer sending someone an ounce or so for them to try.

Firebird Flake sold out in a matter of hours. Next week, the first tin showed up on TinBids for $40. Soon thereafter it was all over TinBids for the same $40 a tin. Were it not for the 'professional' resellers, we would be able to buy the limited releases directly from the retailer, just like in the old days.
And unsold from what I saw.
