If you're wondering #1 drill Sgt booted for spitting on someone, #2 got booted for smacking someone, #3 was reassigned, #4 was Sgt Walling, or Wallen, 11 .50 cal. bullet holes across his chest, missed every vital organ, and HE WAS batshit crazy!! He pulled up his shirt one day because someone was whining about something and we all saw them. He said he crawled several miles back home. That part I think is BS. But those bullet holes were real. Couldn't fake them.

Wait, rappelling, basic survival, basic sniper, silent sentry classes in the Army? That’s a thing? Where did you do basic? Where did you do AIT

As for the drill sergeant, the hydrostatic shock from a .50 in the torso would likely render any nearby organ inop. Good thing they’re so spread out in there!

No clue what his scars were from, but he clearly got y’all to drink the Kool-aid. 11 50’s in the chest is lights out, I don’t care if you’re a freaking Cape uffalo, it’s game, set, match.

Makes for a good story, though.

Sorry for hijacking, this is just an overwhelmingly interesting story to me. To keep it on track - one of my purchases arrived today. The other one is “supposed” to be here on Friday, although it’s doing that strange thing where you get 0 updates and it just keeps restating a delivery date. We shall see. Apart from that one, the rest of the stuff is ready to go!

A single .50 BMG anywhere in the torso is fatal. The fact that a person could complete basic and not understand that is appalling.

Yeah he has bullet holes, 11 of them not sure on caliber. He claimed .50 cal. Holes are about 3/4". I was in during the early 80s.

The classes weren't official. Base personnel held them. Apparently a lot of people were getting drunk which led to trouble. So they figured if they occupied them with what they deemed as interesting stuff that they'd cut back on public intox problems.

Not sure if it worked. But after 5 days of picking up cigarette butts, when at that time I didn't smoke was a pain, and counting the holes in the ceiling tiles, I needed to do something or I was going to start drinking and that's what I told the first Sgt. Which quickly prompted him to make some calls, which led to my permission.

I never paid attention to how long the classes were available. The survival training consisted of a print out with color pictures, some detailed info, and going into the woods 2.5 days with no food. I tried to sneak some in but he caught everyone.

Oh. So what installation did you do your Basic? AIT? What was your MOS?

3/4” hole is .750 caliber, FWIW.

You must have had some pull. Never heard of a 1SG making calls and pulling strings on behalf of a TRADOC soldier.

20201208_112957.jpgLate to post. I must've been good this year. Unfortunately, i had no clue who the box was from and i had made a lot of purchases recently. So i went ahead and opened the box. Was not expecting the secret santa so quick. My bad.

I've had my eye on Bobs for a while and this will introduce me to the G&H rabbit hole. Have 2 tins of haunted so this 3rd gives me a good reason to open one and the no5 seems like itll be an easy going morning style english blend.

This wasn't basic. I was at ft. Jackson for that. This was while I was waiting for MOS school. This was at Ft. Eustis. They also had first aid, advanced first aid, marksman improvement, basic self defense, advanced self defense, and that's all I can remember. The self defense classes lasted 12 weeks.

After I finished the last class, the survival class, a week or so later my school started. Once I got to permanent party, I started drinking. Every weekend there was something going on somewhere. Never got into the getting drunk, throwing up, waking up with a hangover so it got old quick. So I started looking for a female.

MOS school? Enough said.

Basic Sniper @ Ft. Eustis? Ft. Jackson = non-combat MOS. Basic sniper training as a non-combat MOS TRADOC soldier @ Ft. Eustis?

I’ve said what I need to say. Those who know, know.

I’ll not contribute to further derailment of this thread. My apologies, I just can’t let stuff like this alone. Carry on with the Santa. If I can let these tins sit here in this box until the last one arrives without opening them, I’ll be surprised!

All he did was call the instructors to see if they'd take me. They all said yes. I was only Interested in a handful of classes. The flyer was on the ground when I was policing butts. I asked if there was anything I could do other than pick up butts, he said I could paint. I showed him the flyer. I had marked some. Took him 3 days to get back to me. Said only reason he was doing it is because I showed initiative. I wasn't allowed to tell anyone or it was over and I'd be picking up butts or painting.

They were about as big as my thumb. if there was any truth to him crawling, the tissue may have become infected, and possibly necrotic.

So the infected dead tissue would have to be removed. Asked a Dr. about it. He had no info on damage from a .50. And he said he'd never treated a bullet wound.

He was at a pain clinic. One of my many pain specialists. Also if he was bleeding a lot he may have tried to cauterize it. Which meant he either heated his knife or poured in gun powder and lit it. But I doubt he did it personally. He most likely would've been unconscious after the first or second time. But I don't know. This guy probably liked it.

At Ft Eustis we had people from infantry, Special Forces, Rangers, Airborne, etc.. The 558th transportation group was support for either 82nd Airborne or 101st, can't remember which.

They were there after combat injuries forced them to change mos. Some changed mos for reasons they wouldn't say. I was a 61c10 watercraft engineer. We had Navy SEAL divers on our LCU. We had a decompression chamber too. Thing was about as big as a car or pick up. The classes were given by personnel that was trying to prevent a huge drinking problem on post and off post. If I shot expert every time except 1. Had 37 rounds instead of 40 cause I didn't count them. Considered joining the Army rifle team.

I don't need to build myself up to anyone and I don't care what you believe or not. I know what I did or didn't do. I had to put up with my friends wanting to know where I went after formation all the time.

I'm only answering questions that were asked. I didn't mean to get off topic. But not believing that in the realm of possibilities, that those classes never existed, is a further stretch.

Basic sniper as the class was called, consisted of improving your breathing, shooting at a target 750 yards away. The math, trajectory, it was hard. Only 1 guy hit the target consistently. It wasn't me. The whole time I hit the thing twice. But practice made me a better shot. Hunting too improved. It wasn't on ft Eustis. We had to drive an hour to get there.

Each class had maybe 5-10 people. The way I learned Australian rapelling was because I learned rapelling in basic. It was fun. Everyone was screwing around and the instructor took 3 of us to teach us. We were the only ones paying attention. He actually extended the class 1 day to teach us.

Basic survival was basically a weekend camping trip without food. You had to survive in the forest for 2 days. Left Friday afternoon got back Sunday evening. He made us all look for plants and bugs, made us eat them, then showed us how to cook them.

Silent sentry was basically learning to use a knife to kill quietly and quickly. The instructor carried a Karmabit he never taught us anything with it. First time I ever saw one. There was no real hands on training. It was all theory. He talked a lot, demonstrated a lot.

Non of the classes were official military training. Again the instructors were just base personnel with the training and knowledge to teach the classes. They gave the classes cool names because again they were trying to deter people from drinking. Gave them something else to do instead of getting drunk. I was actually in formation one morning when a car hit 3-4 other cars. The 1st Sgt told me that's the purpose of these classes. Even though we were forbidden to drink, many of us still did. After about the 3rd hangover I was done getting drunk. Woke up sleeping in bed springs because my room mate was afraid I was going to throw up on the mattress. We had a whole other empty bunk.

Please move this to a different thread. I'm sorry but I should know what I did or didn't do. And NO ONE CAN SAY DIFFERENT!! You're putting too much stock in the names of the classes.

I'm sorry it went this far. But 2 things no one calls me. A thief or a liar. No need to do either. My dad would come out of his grave and beat me with in an inch of my life.

All because I couldn't remember AIT .I forget names of cars too but they're still here. Lots of things I can't remember mostly due to my pain meds. Eyesight sucks too because of diabetes, but roses are still red. I also have a terrible time with names. Just because I forget a name doesn't mean that person doesn't exist.

I was on the LCU 1667, a LCM(have no idea what the numbers were) and the FMS (floating machine shop). I have pictures. The LCU had SEAL divers. We used to go on "training cruises" with them. Also took them to Hampton bay bridge tunnel. There was a restaurant there that burned down and took most the pier with it. Divers hooked up the pilings so the crane could pull them out.

Yeah, he’s a good bugger until he gets a scent of what’s in the package and has a relapse!

I think a teenager took it. High school let out and I saw the bus pass. There were 3-4 packages. I'm glad he only took 1. The rest were pipes from eBay. Been at war with my carrier nearly 5 years now. I keep begging them to get someone that knows what they're doing or cares about what they're doing. But this generation, I think is asking a bit much. Every time we complain, he's good for about 3 months. We're about ready to get a PO box. Only problem lots of places won't deliver to PO BOX so only other avenue is one of those pick up places. You use they're address, they assign a box, they also remail stuff. Usually used by drug dealers and hackers when they order stuff with your credit card.

I'll go along with you on the bullet wounds. For all I know they could've been .762, 5.6, .223. .45, 9mm I have no idea. I only know what he said. What he claimed. Said he was driving a jeep. Hell for all I know it was shrapnel from a mine he drove over. I wasn't there. So yeah I'm sure he stretched the truth. My thumb is 3/4" that's how big some of the holes were. Some passed completly through. There were wounds on his chest and back. Looked like entry and exit wounds. Others were oval, had one that was sort of heart shaped.

But still he was crazy and mean. He walked right up to the edge, put his toes on the line and got your attention. If you had a run in with him, he didn't hit you, or spit on you, but you wish he had. Because he'd run you till you dropped, made you do push ups till you couldn't feel your arms, then thrust squats or 8 count push ups.

Just because something is called something doesn't mean that's exactly what it is. Its just a name. They were trying to entice young people not to drink. If they called it a weekend of camping, or rifle improvement, proper knife usage, expert marksman training, or whatever, how many people would've shown up? Would you?

That's what enticed me. I've never been shy. If I had a question I asked it. If you would've seen his face when I asked if I could do something else besides pick up butts, I thought he was going to physically throw me out of his office.

But I showed him this dirty piece of paper, explained myself, he told me to leave, 3 days later, I was called to his office and he gave me permission. He never said anything about calling, the instructors told me he'd called.

The rapelling instructor is the one that told me he said I took the initiative to try and do something other than get drunk. All top said to me was you have permission to take these classes, but you can't tell anyone or you'd wish you could go back to picking up butts.

talking of postman, our local guy used to smoke pipes in his youth so he lives somewhat vicariously through any orders. Good bugger he is

When I got my second package, you could smell it through the package. Oh wait no different package. The missing package was C&D Red Flake (maybe Seattle Pipe Club). The stinky package was Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River Rum barrel aged. Just smoked some.

Only reason you could smell it is the box was smashed. The lid was off, the seal was broke. Put the lid back on stuck it in the humidor. Or the canister. I can't remember which it was in. Right now its on the table next to my chair. Might smoke some more in a bit..
