The only absolute I can come up with it, you gotta use a pipe in order to smoke a pipe. Two I guess, gotta have tobacco. Now it's three, as you must have a source of flame. I guess it helps to enjoy smoking but, I suppose one could detest it and still smoke.
Technically it's better to smoke tobacco without flame.
You just can't do that in a pipe so it's outside the purview of this forum.

A goodly proportion of the times that "YMMV" is used in other sorts of conversations, it may reflect a relativistic idea of reality; but, 99% of the times that it's used in pipe smoking related conversations, that isn't the case. I understand being frustrated at it elsewhere; but, don't be frustrated at it here.

The fact is that -- however you explain it -- different palates like different tobaccos, different oral geometries work well with different techniques, and so forth.

There are many things which are true for all people, whether they know it or not, and whether they like it or not. But those are not the things about which we say "YMMV" on a pipe forum.

thanks for the heads up, but as i said, it really was tongue in cheek.

when i wrote the post, i imagined a thread just like this one, so i guess it worked out. YMMV though ;)
