Welp… it looks like no.‘s 51 and 124 have been lost into the ether of the USPS. If anyone finds them on an eBay listing in 10 years please let me know! It’s sad because it isn’t the money. The pipes to me are worth more than what they cost. I’ve been longing for the 4ab for 12 years. It was the first pipe I ever wanted when I turned 18. Growing up, I watched Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. My great-grandfather smoked a pipe, and I always wanted Basil’s 4ab to celebrate the good times and memories with him. Alas… it was never meant to be. :’(

Mine was delayed a couple of days, but it finally got here today. #299. While I appreciate the Sherlock Holmes connection, I've never seen any of Basil Rathbone's movies. I wanted something to keep my old System 309 (my first Peterson) company.

It left the last distribution center on the way to my local post office at 3:18am Tuesday. The truck arrived yesterday morning at 6am to my local post office. I went up there and they said that it did not arrive even though it was on that truck. We turned the post office upside-down. They said that if it doesn’t turn up tomorrow that it’s most likely lost. So…. I guess I’m going to have to contact Smokingpipes.com or USPS after tomorrow. I’ve never had shipping issues with anything that I have ordered. And it had to happen when I purchased irreplaceable pipes lol. Just my luck.

Did it show "departed"? I'm guessing your local didn't spend time looking unless it had shown that. I've been getting very inconsistent and inaccurate updates from the post office for some reason just on the two packages that are coming from the same place, one of which has a 4AB in it. After a strange and circuitous route, it is showing marked out for delivery by my local P.O. as well as the other package and I'll know here in the next 1-4 hours (and home organizing the garage so the cars can be in before the blizzard and so I can watch the mailbox!).

So hang in there another day or two!

Did your local offer to call the distribution center? They might get somewhere tomorrow if something doesn't change.

Yes, it had departed the distribution facility. They said to place a claim if it didn’t turn up in a few days.

Darn, departed usually means departed, but maybe it didn't or maybe it just went on down the road and will show back up at the distribution center if the truck goes back or another along the way and get logged in. A couple of days will tell the tale hopefully. I still have another I ordered on SP EU that, since placing the order in the wee hours of last Friday morning, has managed to move 30+ miles in the opposite direction of the Dublin airport. Staying level headed because I don't want to jinx it possibly getting here and ending up in the back hole that is Chicago where I've had things not update literally for weeks (so I'll save my worries for that if it happens).

Stay calm and hold your Petersons!

It's the Christmas mailing season... I had a package that was mailed 2 day priority show up today 13 days later with no updates for 7 days. Last season a Rad Davis pipe I ordered showed up seven weeks later.

So far it's only been two days since the last update. Usually you have to wait 7-14 days before the USPS will allow you to do a lost mail search.

It'll probably turn up. eventually.

My Heritage 4AB (49/500) arrived yesterday!
I plan to stuff it with Wilke's No. 515 at our Chicagoland Pipe Collectors Club Christmas party, at Arlington Pipe and Cigar Lounge, on Saturday evening, and smoke it in Basil's, Peterson's and Jim's honor.
Cool, man. I sure wish I could be there with you when you light it up for the first time.

The longest delivery yet?

A box was sent to me in September of 2018, and arrived March 2020.

17 months

The fun part? No damage, no apparent getting scuffed around, no explanation, no apology, no accompanying form, nothing. It was treated like any other package.

It was delivered, opened box - wrong 4AB. I figure I'm jinxing myself with posts about where pipes are or aren't in the get to me chain, so I'll say no more about my still two undelivered pipes until these things are sorted out. As Barney Fife would say, "tick a lock."

Exhale . . . . .

In the meantime, I will continue to root for all here and now my No. 515 has shown up, tomorrow I'll be firing up the timely delivered 4AB Heritage that has been awaiting Rathbone's blend for a few days. Mrs. Hudson!!!!!!!!!

That's NOTHING. I received a postcard sent over 34 years before, according to the postal stamp. It was to the previous occupant of the apartment I was living in at the time. The kicker is that the cancellation stamp was date of the actual day of my birth. I kept the card. Top that.

Sorry, that's only a win in the 2-D / non-tobbaciana category. (A postcard isn't a box, and the picture on it wasn't a pipe.)
