I do think that the PSB's show a little more desirable ring in the blast, but then again some pipes have a nice enough blast without that designation. And the PSB's have a reddish stain underneath the darker overstain. I'm interested in whether or not it will pass a cleaner...
If a Peterson System pipe passes a pipe cleaner it's a miracle. System pipes aren't for people who are particular about pipe cleaners, but they are great for people who don't care, just a nice cool and dry smoke.

If a Peterson System pipe passes a pipe cleaner it‘s probably not a very effective system pipe.

What a day! A little mixup resulted in my Terracotta 4AB No. 125 ending up elsewhere. Miraculously it wasn’t far away so rather than fretting over one or two more mailings I went and picked it up! So 2 littermates are here. While I was away a jaunty winter hat (sort of Rathbone-esque) arrived and some Xmas Cheer I obtained from @troutface - surprise Sunday deliveries. Some great assistance from @jiminks and @John Brandt. Great community!82291BE1-06D3-4CC6-8CF1-E273E7588EAE.jpeg

UPDATE! I received my two 4ab’s. I wasn’t aware that I would have to polish my own ferrules. My heritage even has a small dent in the ferrule which I am not too happy about. My terracotta briar has a rough polish with a couple polish wheel scrapes. I am glad they arrived, but gees the blemishes kind of make it bitter sweet. 90469ADF-3277-410C-AA59-06F304412550.jpeg94A3F947-CCA0-46BD-BB33-51461F774782.jpeg9793D4BF-4345-4E13-B434-91025AD4121D.jpeg

Thanks Jim
They won’t ship outside the UK (according to website)
I think they will ship other than tobacco but require bank transfer (I assume you have to call them to find out how to do that and whether their process sounds reasonable over the phone). Might be worth a call if someone is looking for a 4AB - they have several and nobody else seems to have any listed. LOL, if they accepted credit card payments they'd probably be all gone. I sent them an email over the weekend after being surprised to see them pop up with supply - we'll see if they have some clarification.

Yep, they mean it! The email I received says they stopped shipping with Brexit and they didn't want to figure out the regulations, and sounds like they are in no hurry to do so, lol. Their privilege, so not good news for 4ABers.

I did not read the 9 pages of comments. I did read the first page or so...and my observations of Jim's pipes are that they all seem to be of a combination cross grain involving flame and birdseye split down the middle, as some or one or two of my pipes have been similarly cut. It's interesting to me to see this orientation on all three of Jim's pipes.
That Jim pursued this pipe, at least in the back of his mind, for so long and became instrumental in the nostalgic rebirth of the model is just one more story of the legend that is JimInks/Jim Amash.
I mean, he's brought back blends (Edward G. Robinson?), shapes (at least one!), and general appreciation for the hobby by sharing his time and effort to describe thousands of blends with his unmatched palate.
Ok, enough ass kissing. It's wonderful to be here. It's certainly a thrill.

Same response I got - they'll sell it to me, only if they can ship to a UK address. That's a workable plan, but requires quite a bit more effort and a willing flunky in the UK.

Thanks, man. I must say that getting those pipes the day before my birthday, and that some of them were birthday presents not only made it the best birthday I've ever had, but after 47 years of desire for one, I end up with six. It was one of the most momentous days in my pipe smoking life, and certainly worth everything I did to help make it happen. And I have spent a bit of time thanking others for what they did to make it a reality. It's just a great time for me.

Am aware of 1 fellow who'd bought a heritage one with a large fill notable when he received it. Believe he sent it back.

Black Swann Shoppe in the UK still had 9x Heritage finish available when I just checked. There is a catch: they currently can't ship internationally - I've no idea why not - so delivery is to UK addresses only.

**Limited Edition** Peterson Pipe of the Year 2021 Heritage Smooth P-Lip - https://www.thebackyshop.co.uk/products/limited-edition-peterson-pipe-of-the-year-2021-heritage-smooth-p-lip

(Fortunately for me I have a brother in the UK... ...so I've finally got hold of one of these illusive pipes... ...well one is being shipped to my brother anyway, it'll be next year before I finally get hold of it!)

UPS or Fed Ex I'd have had it yesterday morning and confidence with it not getting delayed or lost.

They shipped mine via UPS ground, but it's a new, cheaper form of UPS where it eventually ends up going to USPS for final delivery. So it took 8 days - slowest pipe shipment from SP ever. Given that they double-sold one of my pipes, you'd think they would fast-track the other one, just to reduce the customer dissatisfaction a little, but my conversation with their Customer Service after receiving the 'double-sold' email, yielded absolutely nothing. They were sorry "if I was inconvenienced."

...so I've finally got hold of one of these illusive pipes...

I did hear that some of them were illusive.

Glad to hear you got one. I ended up getting one shipped over from the UK, from GQ Tobaccos, thanks to @Toast in this thread! I had heard some not-so-great things about the Heritage versions some had received, but mine has gorgeous grain, no fills, and the ferrule is slightly more bell-shaped than my Terracotta, approaching what the 1930's 4AB's looked like. My only complaint is that the orifice is not centered in the mouthpiece, a problem I've never seen in any pipe, Peterson or otherwise.

Mark Irwin had suggested in his blog that we pick out a stem bend that we liked, as they are bent by hand. I was able to do that with my Terracotta, and the bend is really great. I did that with a Heritage as well, but that delay resulted in its disappearing from my cart when I went to pay.

The Heritage stem bend is very different, but that, along with the other differences, make it kind of cool.

Also, they smoke great.

my sandblast has been stuck in Athens waiting to be presented Greek Customs for 10 days so far,
Mind you that is nothing as I have another pipe that has been over 1 month since being unloaded and 12 days since being presented to Customs.
both will get stung for import duties of 23% plus a handling charge:(
