As an optimist, previous North Stars fan, & currently a season ticket holder here in the State of Hockey, I only have one thing to say:

Just for old guys and historians:

Watched the 1963 Stanley Cup Playoffs— Maple Leafs vs Red Wings- Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk and all!

Do you remember no masks on anyone? (A few "odd" goalies started with the face-shaped fiberglass.)

Do you remember who won?

Do you recall that everyone of the original eight teams were in places where you could have natural outdoor rinks? Can you name the other six?

Boston, NYR, Chicago, and Montreal were the remaining original 6

Not sure what you mean by Original 8. The league added 6 teams to make it 12 total in 1967.

Without looking anything up...

No masks was before my time. I remember a few without helmets. I recall the last to do this was Craig McTavish.

Must've been the Leafs, since Detroit's last cup prior to their '97-'98 triumph was 1955.

Original Six was Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, and NY Rangers. Second six were Kings, Penguins, Blues, Golden Seals, Flyers....and the sixth escapes me. Cleveland Barons or something?

Does the winner get a bag of Dorchester, perchance? ?

Edit: North Stars!! Ugh...how could I forget that? Dunce cap time for me...

Wow, that was indeed some vintage Quick tonight. This one could've easily gotten out of hand early. Big win, felt like it would go to OT for sure. Of course, my team plays the only nailbiter of the night! Blowouts are so much less stressful, no matter which end of it your team may be on.

On to Game 2. Go Kings! ?

Best game of the night no doubt about that. And anyone watching hockey since 2012 knows better than to underestimate the Kings in the playoffs ?

No one was downplaying Quick. Everyone knows what he can do, it is no secret.

McDavid cutting through 4 Kings players was incredible.

I'm not too worried, its a 7 game series.

Who should be worried is Toronto. You don't embarrass the two time defending champs and get away with it in game 2.

Here's the final 10 "no helmet" guys. One, Rod Langway, a Capital. He's right about the practice injuries. Witness Carl Hagelin, hit in the eye with a puck in practice (and wearing a helmet). Langway owned a bar near the old Capital Centre arena. A hour or so after every home game, he would there tending bar. He served me a few beers! Great guy and Capital.

I expect no joy from the Caps vs Panthers tonight. They brought up Fucale, an AHL goalie from Hershey. He played a few games this January, one great, pitched a shutout against a weak team, then got stoned by the Rangers. We're going nowhere, and I doubt this series makes it to five games.

I watched a good bit of the Canes game, wow, they are as good as I thought.

Quite agree, my bracket has Oilers/Flames in round 2. Mostly because how could you not want the battle of Alberta in the playoffs!!!!!

I'm happy the Lightning are in it, but my god that was a bloodbath last night. Hopefully they'll come out with a vengeance tomorrow night and make it a series. D - Line need to tighten up and not make so many bad passes and stay out of the box (my son calls it the No-No Square).

They can do it, we've seen them do it before, but the last 5-6 weeks have been painful to watch. Good stretch last week against TOR, NAS and FLA, but this is a whole new game.

Yikes. Just saw the replay of Clifford's hit. Nasty, just crushed him, couldn't have even seen it coming. Borderline late as well. I say that's a well-deserved one-game ban, and I'd say that even if he were still a King. Hope the guy wasn't concussed.

Thoughts anyone?

(p.s. I see Corey Perry got 16 PIM. That sounds about right! :ROFLMAO:)
