I hope you are not disappointed when you get the pipe. It has a clear Perspex stem, not a white stem as you indicated.

Here's a couple of unique GBD shapes:

519 "Sieur" London,England COM First of this shape and finish I've seen.

8920

569M Rhodesian. I think this is post-Cadogan because:
- of the letter following the shape number)
-"Standard" finish , never seen that in a catalog
- the 569 shape number is a French made Rhodesian in the pre-Cadogan era
This was listed as a BIN and it went fast.

These are going to be ugly photos because I haven't started working on this one yet. It's a GBD Pub 9465 and I haven't found a lot of information on that line of GBDs. I'm guessing its from the lower end of the totem pole.
There is a "G" stamped on the bottom of the shank at the mortise.

Letter stamps on Cadogan era pipes are pretty common. No one has ever cracked the code on their meaning. They are also seen on similar era Comoys pipes. Yours is unusual in that it has a later era brass rondell, with the Cadogan era round COM. In the late 90's and early 2000's, GBD came out with pipes that had the rondel, the Pub series was in that release. Then, they just disappeared (Pipes & Tobacco used to have them in their PA shops)

Thanks.
I keep finding estate pipes that sometimes just don't the normal. I have a Peterson Kapp-Royal 79 but the beadwork around the mortise was "only" used on the Dunmore line. Not to mention that instead of the Peterson "P" on the stem, it's stamp IRC for Iwan Ries, Co.

Kapp Royal used to be an IRC only line.
it probably is a Dunmore but stamped Kapp Royal with IRC. ?
79 is a Dunmore shape.

Pipepedia has the Century as introduced in the 1950's, but I've never actually seen a dated, 1950's catalog showing that finish. Pipepedia copied over Jerry Hannahs' old GBD page. It may have some inaccuracies. There aren't a lot of GBD catalogs out there for reference, particularly before the 1970's.

Here's one I finished, a shape 2006 Prehistoric.

That Prehistoric looks great - very cool diamond shank and stem.

Al, I’m no GBD scholar but the earliest clear mention of the Century I’ve seen is 1964. It’s certainly not in RTDAs from the Fifties.

As for the "quality" question, if you want to take price as a surrogate then the Century, along with the New Era and Prestige, was in the second tier of the London Made regular lines. Here's how the various regular lines were priced in 1974:

Virgin and Varichrome were priced at $30 each
Century, New Era, and Prestige were priced at $25 each
Mandarin was priced at $20 each
Prehistoric Perspex and Prehistoric Acrylic were priced at $23.50 each
Fantasy was priced at $21 each
Prehistoric was priced at $20 each
International and Tapestry were priced at $17.50 each
New Standard and Speciale Standard were priced at $16.50 each
Granitan and Ebony were priced at $15.00 each
Rockroot and Prehistoric Restlite were priced at $12.50 each
Penthouse was priced at $11.00 each
