Are new GBD pipes still esteemed? I see Iwan Ries has new blast pipes in a number of shapes available at $60, listed as half price, and the GBD Medley seconds at $30 per pipe or less if you buy two or three at once, with some finish flaws. Otherwise, I don't see many new GBD's for sale online.

Although I don’t have much interest in new GBD’s I have also wondered why they aren’t on offer from more online retailers? TBH maybe I’d be interested in a new GBD if I could find them. I haven’t seen new GBDs for sale anywhere other than Iwan Ries and I am only aware of these because of your recent post.
Another day I have gotten me a medium sized GBD century model 3921 in mint condition ,and noticed this one were supplied with removable 3mm metal stringer,wondering if these like stringers were common practice with GBD brand pipes?,previously I have seen some standard BBB pipes which had stringers fitted as well,

Love that squat tomato 9282 prehistoric! Prehistorics are my favourite GBD finish.
My wife once lost a GBD prehistoric I had in the undergrowth on a walk in late autumn. Much gesturing, shouting and recrimination. Incredibly in the spring while rooting around the area just on the off chance, I found it again. Apart from a small patch of discolouration, it was fine! Unbelievable. That Prehistoric finish survived both frost and water.

Hello GBD peeps. photos above are of a restored GBD with a replacement lucite stem. It says it’s a Rainbow 9565. Don’t know much about it, but it was the old man’s from early 1980s I believe. Went through this thread and couldn’t find much info. Any tidbits anyone could share on this model would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
No info for you. Mine is a Collector International. Huge bowl, so I do not reach for it often.
I only have a handful of GBD pipes in my collection, but I've looked at a good number of them online and can't find any info on a 549 Bulldog that I have. It has a Perspex stem, and the shank is stamped "PERSPEX." While I've seen no shortage of pipes with Perspex stems, I have never seen this stamp on other GBD pipes. It also has a letter stamp of "J" on the underside of the shank. Would that make it a Cadogan era pipe? Any info you have would be much appreciated.

This GBD 9664 is my favorite pipe.
This weekend I purchased a GBD Tapestry in the same shape. I’m not crazy about the Tapestry line or the chair leg stem on this one but I’ve decided to try to acquire the 9664 shape in as many different styles as possible. I’m not planning planning be to pickey re condition as long as they are smokable. If you see one floating around the inter webs I’d love to know about it (that is - if you don’t want it for yourself)

The earliest datable by hallmark GBD I've seen was on eBay not long ago with a "Buy It Now" price of £300 approx.
I wish now that I'd screen-grabbed better pics as the listing has gone.
Not that I would have bought it as the bowl was pretty rough and the chain attached cap is missing but it was interesting nonetheless to see a briar from the 1870s when the earliest datable by hallmark briar I own is from the 1880s.

That COM and grade name would reflect that it is from the Cadogan era, probably early transition (I assume till they exhausted the brass rondell inventory). There was definitely no shortage of grade names they came up with, but thats a first for me as well.
I have a similar "Algerian Briar" "Made in France" that is also a sitter/poker shape from the 50s or 60s. I believe it to be a GBD second for two reasons; the stem is an unusual shape that I have only seen on GBD sitter/poker pipes and it has a Fleur de Lis on the side and Fleur de Lis was a seconds brand of GBD. It is one of my favorite pipes but I agree huge bowl - mine is 20mm x 50mm. But really comfortable hanger. I also can't find any information about it anywhere.
