My earliest GBD is probably this very French example with Middle-Eastern motifs in enamelled terracotta or ceramic with albatross wing bone, ivory, bone screw tenon and amber fittings from the mid/third quarter of the 19th century.

It's clear that there's a reasonable amount of information out there on late 19th/early 20th century GBD briars, little available on GBD meerschaum pipes and virtually nothing on GBD clay or ceramic pipes

From old catalogues that I've seen ivory was not as common for stems/mouthpieces as amber and horn at the time but it does appear to complement very well white metal/silver and briar

Those are amazing virkia! Thanks for posting them.
My pleasure.
The GBD with the Ivory stem looks unsmoked
Amazing pipe
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, 99% of my older pipes are in that condition and will remain so whilst in my keep.

No way of dating these accurately so my guesstimate is anytime between 1900 - 1920

Nothing special like some of the beautiful old pipes in this thread but I recently bought this pipe and I was wondering if anybody here could tell me what is going on with the logo inlay and the extra lines on top and bottom. I couldn't find anything about it after some cursory google research. On the other side it says London England over 1331.

Regarding the listing of GBD seconds or sub brands (posted in this thread 7-April-2015), would any of you happen to know if that might include a brand stamped "Glen Pride" "Made in London England" "45"?

Glen Pride is listed as a Parker/Hardcastle 2nd line, in "Who Made That Pipe".
Thank you for the prompt reply! It is the make of my very first pipe. 21st birthday purchase, 1981 from the old Tim West retail shop in the Ohio Center. Still in use today (literally). Apologies for intruding on what is a GBD thread.

Here’s a GBD that I purchased with a broken stem. The intent was to save this pipe from the garbage bin.

I sent it to Ryan Alden and here’s the suits.

Oh, the case has GBD on one side and DASH - BRIGHTON on the other.

There is almost nothing to go on with the first one because it has no stamping besides the GBD stamp. The stem is orific. I know very little about the timeline of GBDs and whether it should have a rondelle or not and what that would mean in terms of dating or if it is not the original stem. I didn't pay much for it so in any case I'm pleased with it, I find it charming. Second one is a Century Matt 7891 with the London England stamp. I'm becoming really enamored with GBD pipes and they seem like a fun and not overly expensive brand to collect. The fact that they smoke really well too doesn't hurt.
