I am a few months over a year into my pipe smoking journey and I can't seem to find a bulk flake Va/VaPer I like more than what PS/ES is offering. For that matter, I struggle to find any affordable tobacco I enjoy more; burley, english, aromatics included. Even if you add ribbon cut bulk into the mix, ES 4th Gen Evening Flake and PS400 Luxury Navy Flake are top two on my list and they don't break the bank. The flavor and presentation are on point. I constantly find myself reaching for them and smoking it all before they can get any age. Just can't put the stuff down puffy

Being new, I'm still learning how companies are involved in various blends. I learned that while Evening Flake is blended by Erik Stokkebye, it seems to be manufactured by Mac Baren. So in light of the recent news, the political atmosphere, and a 15% off sale, I made my largest bulk purchase to date of 39oz. Just enough to get free shipping 😅 It's saving me money in the long term on a favorite blend ($3/oz even, including taxes). Tobacco isn't getting any cheaper, right? Right?? 😝 And, it's giving me a little safety net if the blend does happen change. Either way, I'm going to enjoy smoking all of it and am excited for some of it to get a little age.

It sure is beautiful... 18 jars, so a hair over 2oz each. I already 2 4oz jars in my cellar. So, I expect in total this will last me 3-5 years if I continue smoking other blends as well.

Due to the impending closure of Mac Baren and Sutliff I decided to pick up a few tins of Doblone D’Oro so I could hold onto the “good stuff” from 2014 and 2015. I also picked up some pouches of St. Bruno ready rub.
It’s been years since I bought any of either and I held no illusions that they would measure up to earlier releases, but I was not prepared for level of the drop in quality.
Doblone D’Oro was originally a faithful clone of the old Va/Per version of Three Nuns. Now it is an inoffensive characterless smoke, somewhat bland. I don’t think STG can actually hurt it.
The Virginia base of St. Bruno is bland and mildly discordant, and the topping is stingy beyond belief.
Really a shame. Guess I got an answer…

The jar game is strong with this one. Is that FOAM keeping the jars safe and evenly spaced?!

hahahh yea! I didn't have to go out of my way to do it though 😝 Found a good deal for off brand canning jars on Amazon and this was just the packaging the jars came in for shipping. I saw no reason to not store my jars in there, close the box up, and put it in the bottom of my closet! 😁
