GLP Horizons is probably the most sugary English blend I have tried in recent days. The red Virginias play a big role in the background. Not overly done however. Very good and enjoyable.

Orlik Golden Sliced is one of my go-to's. It has a pleasant, grassy sweetness to it that can easily be enjoyed all day long. Peterson Flake is also Virginia dominant and right up there with GS.
HU have a blend called "Port Latakia" which was previously known as "Sweet Latakia". I've not tried it myself but I've heard good things. Has anyone tried it? I keep hesitating on buying as I'm worried it's going to be an aromatic along the lines of Sillems Black.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I am curious about aromatic English or crossover blends, as well as the sweet ones.
I can see why it's such a well regarded blend. For me, it still has the same drawbacks as all aromatics: namely a "hollow" kind of a flavour. It's hard to describe but I feel like aromatics are all hot air with some sweet flavour around the edges. To be fair, Sillems Black is the first aromatic I can actually finish a bowl of and I've even smoked multiple bowls of it. I'll be interested in your thoughts. Do you enjoy aromatics?Ha! I just recently smoked G.L. Pease Horizons for the first time a couple of days ago. With the flakes folded and stuffed, there was a nice sweetness to it. With the flakes rubbed out, I detected much less sweetness, however. But that was only the first and second smokes in two very different pipes. Three flakes, folded and stuffed in a Nording Signature Freehand, and two flakes rubbed out in a Savinelli 320.
I'm still new enough to pipes that I wouldn't claim any sort of informed opinion, but I think I'm with you on this, and you described aros well -- there's some depth lacking that the topping is trying to paper over in the few that I've tried. I'm pretty sure I'm not a big Cavendish fan, although that, like everything else, may change over time! But that's why I'm investigating borderline blends, I'm hoping for a solid blend where you can taste the leaf, and the topping is just the extra sauce.
Turbo, have you ever had their "Angry Cornishman?" It is also very good. A bit more Latakia.
As to the OP's question, a good, sweet Balkan is C & D Palmetto Balkan, if you haven't already tried it.
Boswell’s Military Force is what you are looking for. Trust me. Good stuff.
Another vote for Stokkebye English Luxury. Their Proper English is sweet also, a bit less so, and more from the Orientals
A mate called over recently with a couple of new-to-me blends.
Both should scratch your itch for a "sweetish" English blend - Brebbia Latakia Flake and Rattray's Red Lion (Oriental blend + black cavendish = Scottish Blend ??)
My favourite is Sillem's Black which, in my books, is an aromatic-English crossover

I am late to this one but love the question as I too seek a sweet english. I wish TR had a rating on sweetness like they do with Strength and Room Note, etc.

I love SPC Bourbon Barrel Aged but really costly and isn’t SPC going away? Same for Sutliff and Lane?
I like GLP Maltese Falcon, Kramers Father Demsey, and Peterson EMP.
I have not tried any below yet recommended in this post. For those who have tried all the Boswells and Country Squires of these below which one is the sweetest.

The only one of those that i have open is Sillem's Black. As much as this gets labelled as a crossover blend, to me, this is an aromatic. So, to my taste, that comes with the usual "sweet yet hollow" quality that all aromatics have. This is the best way I can explain aromatics. They taste to me like sweetened warm air. If you enjoy aromatics then I definitely suggest trying Sillem's Black but I'd advise against considering it "an English blend with a touch of sweetness".
Have you tried Artisan's Blend?
I also do not care for aromatics. To me most have a chemical aftertaste similiar to how a diet drink has an aftertaste. This could be mental because I do like Granger and War Horse so a topping flavor of anise or tonka bean is not always bad.
I forgot to mention that I have tried Artisan Blend a few years ago and it’s good.
I may give Sillens black a try.
If you don't like aromatics, i'd actually suggest avoiding Sillem's Black, unless you don't mind potentially ending up with 100g of an aromatic you don't want to smoke. i'm disappointed by SB as it's not what I was hoping it was. It shares the characteristics of aromatics that might me not enjoy them (mainly a lack of a proper tobacco flavour and instead that kind f airy sweetness).
My next attempts will be with Solani Black and White and with HU Port Latakia. Both sound promising however, once again, i'm worried about ending up with yet another aromatic that I won't smoke.
If anyone can comment on HU Port Latakia or Solani Black and White I'd appreciate it. Are they English blends with a touch of sweet or are they aromatics with some latakia added (as I consider Sillem's Black to be)?
