C&D cross eyed cricket is a favorite of mine I love English blends.
I had such high hopes for this one and it just tasted like bland generic tobacco when I tried mine.. Idk if it was me or the batch but it def started my fatigue with C&D lol.. maybe I'll have to revisit now that my palate has developed a bit more.

Ah! Very true and great point to make. It is more of an aro. Thank you for the clarification! ☺️
Yeah no, they're great blends I just assumed his question as being more "traditional English with a hint of sweetness"

It's definitely a tricky/blurry line... one of my favorites is Sutliff Eastfarthing also mentioned here but I happen to believe that one (also 504c) as being more like an aromatic with latakia in it rather than a mostly standard English with an aromatic/sweet quality.

Even Boswell's Northwoods also mentioned here... again, another awesome awesome blend. But due to its (from what i can discern) higher content of latakia and Cavendish and lower content of Virginia and orientals, to me it seems more like a crossover/hybrid rather than just sweeter type of "standard" English.

But ofc look at how debatable/open for interpretation just the term Balkan can be by itself lol.
I never really understood how plum pudding could be considered a Balkan with heavy red virginia and perique but that's even a whole 'nother can o worms 😂🤷

Crossover blends and balkans are definitely the majority of my all-time favorites though so, I say they can call them whatever they want as long as they keep my bowl full puffy

My palate is similar to yours. Try these - five of my absolute favorites;
Father Dempsey, 965, Nightcap, Mississippi River, Red Rapparee. All are English / Scottish blends and have a bit of underlying sweetness in the background. Black Mallory is also a Scottish blend and said to have a lightly sweet tone as well.

I was going to recommend “Scottish” blends as well. Without heading into a crossover English/Aromatic, I can recommend Rattray’s Red Rapparee, and Peterson My Mixture 965. For me these are both much sweeter than other English and Baltic blends. 965 is also the only English/Scottish blend I’ve ever [rarely] received complements on from non-smokers.

Of the English/Aromatic crossovers I’ve tried, I like Lane HGL the best. It’s become my everyday smoke, smells and tastes good, and it’s cheap!

If you like a smooth, rich but mild and smoky, Latakia forward English, take a look at several of the high-quality Drucquer & Sons offerings blended by GL Pease— particularly Casbah. A 100g tin for under $25 is worth every penny.
Drucquer is quality stuff.. I haven't tried one yet that gave me sweet, but definitely smooth, rich, creamy, etc. 👍
Trafalgar is my favorite so far.. plus ofc I love the historical reference. They definitely know how to market to crazy nerds like us 😂

Definitely seconded on both the 965 and HGL!
I'd say the 965 is more traditional English while HGL is more crossover aro/English but definitely both great, sweet options that are (so far) still readily available, great points

I like some sweetness in my English blends. 965 is great.

Agree with 965 and Balkan Supreme. Look for cavendish included in the blend.
Maybe, Two Friends English Chocolate. I have a tin, haven't tried it yet. I'm still working on finding a few more sweeter English blends myself. Sweetest I've had is probably Count Pulaski.

What have you tried? How sweet are we talking here?

Black House, My Mixture 965, Arango Balkan Supreme are favorites of mine that have a nice sweetness somewhere down in the woodsy, leathery English flavor. I guess it’s the black cavendish that you want if you want a non-aromatic English with some sweetness, like some Balkans or a Scottish style blend. You’ll just have to try a bunch to find out!
