It' amazing how many people don't read.
The OP asked a question that had NOTHING TO DO WITH CELLARING. (sorry for shouting - but apparently no one reads if you don't).
The OP opened a bag of tobacco that was likely still newer than most tins on tobacconists' shelves. What does any of this have to do with cellaring? Nothing. Herr Germain went off on a tangent and was completely non-responsive to the question. Then this entire thread turns into a cellaring debate?
What the frapp people?
How about "In the past my bags of your product looked like Stonehaven. This bag looks and smells like Penzance. Did you at Germains make a change? Or could this perhaps have been mis-packaged?"

Maybe he just needed to cellar it a bit longer.

The original post did indeed mention cellaring. Mr. Germain mentioned cellaring in his response. So, cellaring naturally was included in responses.
After most decided that Mr. Germain was indeed one of a kind, the finest kind in my opinion, cellaring was all that was left if we wished to keep the entertainment going.
Threads morph, it's what they do. I doubt that I've ever seen a thread with more than a handful of responses that did not stray from the OP. That's the nature of a forum.

Fair enough. Carry on. :)

I know that I am using a lot of restaurant examples, but we go out to eat as a luxury... and I'm hungry. But, we have this one place down the road that always has a long wait to get in, and someone had blasted them on the town Facebook page. "The food sucked, the wait staff was slow, and it was the worst everything." In no time everyone was blasting the OP,

"Yes they suck. Shut up and please stop going, so there won't be as long of a line to get in."

"Your little trick to get us to not go there isn't working."
A maker like Germains could literally wipe his a$$ on every complaint and return it, and there would still be people lining up to buy their most amazing blends.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any FS Stonehaven posts or FS Penzance posts on the forums due to Mr. Germains curmudgeonly response. Maybe 'the community' isn't all that upset?

Why in such a rush to close it? People do that too quickly here. If the thread bothers you then stop reading it.
I prefer it when threads are allowed to run their natural course and die a natural death.
I am excited to see where this one goes.

That about sums it up. Besides, I don't see Mssr. Germain's response as particularly curmudgeonly at all. He actually offered direct contact and a willingness to have a conversation. That's pretty remarkable in this day and age of customer disservice.

Completely agree. Like the Joker said "why so serious?"
