I’m in the like em both camp but if I had to pick one, I’d pick Escudo. It’s the VaPer I cut my teeth on and I still smoke it frequently.
This is where I am. I enjoy them both and have cellared both in large quantities, but prefer Escudo, especially young. I will say my LBF is all in the 5-6 year of aging range and it has transformed into an absolute delight.
Davidoff Flake Medallions are very similar, if not the same, as LBF. I do find the Davidoff provides a better fresh smoke than LBF however, likely do to tin aging, and the Davidoff stuff may be a higher quality cut of tobacco as all the coins seem more perfectly formed than bulk LBF.

Finished up with a re-hydration project bringing back 4 cans of Copes from the dead. I wasn't sure how they would come out, but I did good. Little dark spheres that smell like chocolate. Hard for me to tell how much they have lost over the years from drying out.
I have been fooling around with blending and pressing different concoctions into plugs. I may take 50 grams of the old Copes and stack them between 50 grams of some 2007 Escudo and press them together, just to see what happens.

I like both but they're different. I load the bullseye flake without rubbing it out. So the Cavendish bullseye only kicks in occasionally. I like the sweetness of the bullseye flake. I think the escudo tastes more like s true VaPer and the Virginia content is of higher quality than the bullseye flake. Thankfully, I don't have to choose one over the other, I smoke both regularly.
Totally agree with Hoosierpipeguy. I definitely think that Escudo is a higher quality Virginia and is stronger than LBF. I have been smoking both for several years. IMHOyou can’t go wrong with either one.

Since I'm not a heavy pipe smoker, I don't mind paying a bit more for Escudo which is of better quality, has more body and flavor for me. Also I enjoy it more for the fact that it doesn't have Cavendish.

I prefer PS LBF. Virginia’s are brighter, sweeter and the perique is sharper, which I like. Price has nothing to do with it but it’s a plus.
These are my opinions on fresh samples. Haven’t had any of either aged.

I love them all. But I cut my teeth on Davidoff Flake Medallions and that will always be the original gangster for me.

The 'observation' I've made in this and many other similar threads is that we revert to our first impressions as a baseline.

Typically, we remember the good first impressions, perhaps more fondly than their reality and it's that originality that becomes our ghost.

That opens the door to 'limitation by expectation'.
