Because I have a lot of Escudo cellared, I've never smoked LBF; plus the "luxury" in the name is over-the-top for sales. Thought of buying some LBF from the smokingpipes sale but didn't due to the Escudo cellared.

I like both but they're different. I load the bullseye flake without rubbing it out. So the Cavendish bullseye only kicks in occasionally. I like the sweetness of the bullseye flake. I think the escudo tastes more like s true VaPer and the Virginia content is of higher quality than the bullseye flake. Thankfully, I don't have to choose one over the other, I smoke both regularly.

I find Escudo to be as bland as wet cardboard. I'll take Luxury Bullseye Flake or Luxury Navy Flake over Escudo any day.

I rubbed out a coin or LBF and let it set for 15 mins. Guess that was not enough as I had trouble keeping it lit. Has your LBF been moist or ready to go or what ?

I'm smoking escudo right now, fresh tin. Rolled three coins in the palm of and packed the first a little loose, then firmed up the last two. I really enjoy this smoke. Can't wait to let some age and try in 4 years....will have to right do not open until 2021 on the tin.

PS LBF doesn't interest me when it's fresh. Escudo is a more flavorful smoke for me. But with 4 years of age it becomes a really great smoke. It's a bit sweeter and less peppery than Escudo. But when Escudo ages it gains smoothness and a lovely fruitiness that it doesn't have when fresh and it loses some of that pepperiness
Precisely my experience with both blends. LBF flake has to be aged at least two years or it's not worth smoking, in my opinion. After that, I like it just as much as Escudo. Most of the time I leave out the Cavendish core and still find it slightly sweeter than Escudo.

aquadoc,

Is there a way to lessen the bite of red Virginias? Other than avoid completely?

Not that I am aware of. I have tried aging MC 5100 for ten years and it still tore my tongue off. If you are like me nothing will lessen the acid burn of red virginia's. I totally avoid them.

Have a sealed tin of Excudo, and I'm aging some of the PS, neither in rotation right now. I'm expecting good things from the Virginias in each.

Which Stokkebye Luxury flake you asking about, auburnfan? Everyone seems to be assuming that you're asking about Luxury Bullseye Flake, undoubtedly because they're both curly cuts, but LBF has Cavendish. Wouldn't Luxury Navy Flake be the blend to compare, despite being a rectangle instead of a circle? Both of these are pure VaPers.

Fresh PS LBF turns me off. I can't shake the Cavendish mouthfeel/slight Vanilla flavor that I get when smoking it. I aged some for a year, and it did get better, but I didn't have the patience to jar some up for heavy aging. WHo knows, I may change my mind.

I’ll reiterate the negative comments on fresh PS flakes: just not very good. But with some age, really good stuff.

I’m in the like em both camp but if I had to pick one, I’d pick Escudo. It’s the VaPer I cut my teeth on and I still smoke it frequently.

Aged LBF is sublime and I smoke at least a bowl daily. It's sweeter and less spicy than Escudo, so a perfect morning smoke for me. I do have a good stock of Escudo aging as well, but that I reserve for an occasional smoke. LBF can't be beat price-wise and I have pounds of it aging. Escudo IMO is not 3-4 times better to justify the additional cost for a daily smoke.
