Fallacy of Relative Privation: All Problems Are Relative
Isao wants to convince his coworker Tazuki that their company needs to focus on reorganizing their marketing sector. Their ads are played at terrible hours, the graphics of posters look atrocious…academy4sc.org
Of course. It is mandatory, only for smokers and drinkers, there is also an emergency telephone, outside the submarine, in case of emergency. There is also a first aid kit and duct tape, in case a pipe breaks at the stem. I've hired a psychiatrist, a hairdresser, and a writer, in case the submarine runs out of oxygen. Everything will be okay. Can we smoke inside the submarine @JOHN72 ?

I can type with both feet in my mouth - figuratively.Writing something that seemed reasonable when one wrote it, but on reflection and listening to the opinions of others, one sort of feels sheepish or foolish about it, and in some way, possibly regrets posting it in the first place. What is this situation called? Foot-in-mouth syndrome?
Yup and it looks like we're all here for it again. Told you all I just couldn't help myself!Yeah but all those threads died down; they’re no longer on the first page. And then this guy made yet another thread about it.
I think it's the sheer numbers of cigar smokers vs effectiveness of group. My wife worked with several lobbyists in Maryland, one represented cigar manufacturers (when MD was increasing their tobacco tax). I asked him if he represented any group that made pipe tobacco. He replied "people still smoke pipes?". So no representation. At that time, many MD legislators smoked cigars, I never met one who smoked a pipe. Those guys had a stake. We're on our own.I guess all the doers are on the cigar forums
Has the UPCA tried to get involved with lobbying? Seems like that would be pipe smokers' greatest organization for taking on things like this.I think it's the sheer numbers of cigar smokers vs effectiveness of group. I wouldn't sweat it. Simon squandered millions of dollars of Mac Baren profit into real estate and failed nicotine pouches. He sunk the company so bad that they decided to sell the company.Um, no.
In 1887 the company was acquired by Harald Halberg (“HH”) (1850- 1919) and later taken over by his son Einar Halberg (born 1881) and grandson Jørgen Halberg (born 1915). The company was renamed the Mac Baren Tobacco Company in 1995. Jørgen’s son, Henrik Halberg ran the company until his untimely death in 2021. The last CEO at the helm of the company was Simon Sophus Nielsen.

I think the UPCA is just about non-existent these days? I assume they have no funding, engaging a lobbyist takes a lot of cash. Thats where the cigar lobby wins.Has the UPCA tried to get involved with lobbying? Seems like that would be pipe smokers' greatest organization for taking on things like this.
That's bold -- can you source the facts for the claims?Simon squandered millions of dollars of Mac Baren profit into real estate and failed nicotine pouches. He sunk the company so bad that they decided to sell the company.
Does someone need a hug?I enjoy pipe smoking arguably as much as any of us on this forum. But at risk of sounding like a pinhead, there is much agonising hand-wringing on the forum over corporate tobacco business. Too much. It’s like a group of gossiping ladies under the hair dryers at the salon. The self-righteousness and inflated belief in assuming any of us has an informed opinion is getting a little boring (including this one, too, of course!) Is it really the strong belief here that our own actions or opinions are right and everyone else’s are wrong? Is it impossible that others (who concocted and executed these business decisions) might have valid viewpoints, whatever the heck they might be? Is it a bloody disaster? Is the sky falling? The end of the pipe smoking world as we know it? I don’t think so. Even if it is, I think we vastly overstate our relevance and importance as a community and demographic.
I hope your Speedo shrinks in the wash. This forum appears to have a core group of about 25 active contributors, with around 25 others participating sporadically. Many users, like myself, tend to lurk without engaging, as the discussions often lack sufficient value to justify contributing. Consequently, the forum primarily consists of a small group exchanging opinions, offering limited influence or meaningful content for broader engagement.
(Hence, My still limited amount of posts vs my time since becoming a member).
Agreed, but also how dare anyone express opposing opinions on current events that I post! If we all agreed on every thread, and didn't post differing opinions, this forum would get boring AF pretty quick. How dare people express their opinions on current events!
Firstly, I did not call anyone pathetic. I called the logic he was employing pathetic.I liked it!
Now you've gone all confrontational and called him pathetic I changed my reaction to ......... luuuuuuv!
And I liked the thread starter as well, IMO, all interesting opinions are welcome - the name calling and taking after members, not so much.
