A trademark or patent registered in Canada in no way indicates that any manufacturing was happening there.

Exactly right. In order for intellectual property to be protected it had and has to be registered in the country in which it is offered for sale. Hence in the case of English pipe manufacturers identical trademarks, designs and patents are frequently registered in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, the United States, Germany, France, etc etc. This emphatically does not mean the product was made in those countries. It only means the company sought local protections against infringement. Sasieni, to take an obvious example, had a Canadian patent; does anyone seriously maintain they made pipes in North America?

Luckily this is moot. The Dunhill pipes with Canadian patent numbers are clearly stamped Made in England. Find one that says Made in Canada and I’ll reconsider.

By the way, what Sante actually wrote was from what I was able to find out. That’s clearly a nuanced statement. And even if it was unequivocal it would remain hearsay. Assertions of fact need to be grounded in evidence. Oral testimony isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

The problem with appeals to authority, as with most logical fallacies, is that they quickly devolve into one big circle jerk. On any question where the truth matters and is in dispute you need evidence, not someone else's statement.

“Oral testimony isn’t worth the paper it’s written on”. I’m stealing this quote. 😂

Not entirely original to me. The more general version is “a verbal contract isn’t worth the paper it’s written on” and goes back at least a century or more. Oddly enough any lawyer will tell you the issue of the validity of oral contracts is actually pretty complex and situation-dependent.

You know what? I am going to wait for a real press release instead of a translated news article from a foreign shore, That is where I stand and I suggest you do the same. This is something with no verification. Although continue to buy as much as you can of what you like. Just in case.

They said the same thing when people were posting that Mike told them in person that he was closing the shop. Everyone on here was like, "bullshit." Then when Pipestud posted it, everyone took it as gospel for some reason, even though the other members saying it were viable, believable members of this community. And, even while we were discussing Mike's farewell note, Mary was telling us over a phone call that McClellands was in no way going to close. Business people lie to keep making sales.

I mean, sure, do nothing if you want. But, if there are people out there that haven't yet tried some of the MacBaren blends, this might be a wake up call. And/or , if there is a MacBaren blend that you can't live without, well...

Sure, for me and the rest of us, I don't plan on loading up with bitey, over-cased blends, I can afford to leave my hands in my pockets. But, as soon as McClellands was announced I drove through five states racking up as much McClelland 5100 and tins as I could. And, I am very glad that i did, as I light up a bowl of ketchupy goodness. puffy

Don’t hold your breath waiting for an STG press release announcing bad news.

And, having had a few graphic design classes, I do know that annual reports by a company are NOT to be taken at face value. I don't even know why anyone would trust a report given directly by a company. They pay damn good money to have designers and marketers create deceptions for them at every turn.

Humans being deceptive? I pity you for harboring such cynicism.

28 pages later…. Wait… is that 28 Pages later or 28 Days later? LOL
It'll probably get closed when the mods have all woken up and had their cup of coffees. But, I would urge them to keep it open for the sake of people who do not use this forum every day... like complete losers with jobs, ha ha.
And, as long as people keep posting that they don't believe that this is all happening, and people should just ignore this... well, the horse will need to keep getting beaten. That's how horses work. puffy
