I too am a fan of Jack's and have 1779 Tavern in my regular rotation. I was just on the site as I wanted to order some Patriot but cannot find it.... Hoping some of the brothers here can help in case I am missing something..... (very likely!!)

Go ahead and give him an email or call - he has it - it just isn't listed on his website.

I got a sample of Klompen Kloggen, it's very, very nice. It's listed as an aromatic, but only the shag burley has topping, the rest is a blend of virginia, turkish, and Connecticut shade leaf which gives it a slight cigar flavor. It seems to be dry and burn fast, or maybe I just wish the experience lasted longer! I have some of the bargain mix, which is also pretty good. Both blends have a slight minty smell, and both leave a clean aftertaste. I think there must be a hint of mint essence in there somewhere. Maybe it's just my imagination.

I also got a sample of 5 star and liked it. Ordered 1# of Bargain Blend and 4 oz

of 5 Star. got the next wed. The bargain Blend was a sample that came with the 5 Star

sample. Why the bargain Blend ? Cause as you smoked it changes flavors and pleasing to wife.

Ps. Wrote all this and checked spell check. No problems. Time for a beer.

The 1776 Tavern blend is very good, an English with a smoothe smoke, and wonderful taste.

I agree 100%! I got a sample of it, and the bargain blend, and I simply love it! I know I'll be ordering some.

I sent Jack an email about the American Patriot blend and he sent me an reply about it. A few hours later I went to his site and it was on there. Maybe we were blowing up his email about it so he just put it on there. lol I haven't ordered any yet but I am going to soon.

For those who love Aromatics with a solid Tobacco taste...I highly recommend Tahiti. I really like that one. The casing is present (what's in it? I don't know.) but the tobaccos appear half way through the bowl - there is a hint of salt, chewy burly, and nuttiness that is very tasty indeed.

If you have tried Penzance then it is similar. There was grumbling and umbrage that it wasn't a dead on clone of Penzance. Be that it may - American Patriot is a a robuster blend than Tavern which is a smoother medium/full English. I know Jack calls it heavy English (Tavern) but it is an incredibly well balanced and smooth. American Patriot has lots of complexity and has some pop with each puff. These blends are two of my favorite "English" style blends from Jack - with a good solid runners up of Richmond & Royal London Dock. For pure hybrid fun My Buddy and Bostonian are outstanding.

I would say it is a little fuller - and I would add - it has a little more pop in the mouth for complexity. If you have tried Penzance - then think a blend made in the same spirit - just a little more subdued than Penzance. You won't be disappointed if get over "Hey this not Penzance (Syndrome)!" Penzance is ...well... is Penzance. Yet -when it comes to Patriot - I personally love it for what it is. Tavern is a masterpiece in smoothness and flavor. I have yet to encounter an English blend that is so well balanced, complex and smooth.

I do love that Tavern and agree it is a more middle of the road balanced English. Smoked some this weekend and forgotten how much I like it. However, I also love Penzance. I may have to give Patriot a try now.

Jack is Senior Citizen who does things the Old Fashioned way. He allows me to make payments - so I always keep my tab under $100...then I pay him increments. Unlike a lot of Merchants he sends out your first sample (generous by my standards for FREE) that is only - if you are a First Time Customer - which is awesome. He also is always experimenting on new blends which are always fun to try. He has a new blend that I think totally rocks - but his wife has been ill so he has yet to release it. I hope he does so soon as I think a lot of Folks would love it. It may come out in several versions - a Natural, Aromatic and an English Hybrid.
As a final note: Anyone who takes advantage of Jack's generosity and trust in my opinion is a scourage to our Community. While we all like a "Deal" - there is Karma, Baby!!! :!:

Does Jack work by himself? Are there people that work under him to carry on the business when he gets too far up in years to keep going?

I just rec'd my Free Sample of American Patriot from Sterling Tobacco!
It's a little funny because when I requested this for my sample I forgot I had allready asked him a while ago for a Sample of "My Buddy". Well I never got the sample so I forgot about it.
So after I shoot him off an E-mail asking for a sample of American Patriot he replies back saying "Thank you for your e-mail, but my records indicate I have allready sent you a sample and I'm sorry but I only send out one per customer. Thank you."
Something to that effect. Then I thank him for sending it and make a joke that the postal office must have kept it for themselves. He shoots me an e-mail back saying that he will trust me and send out another sample!
Amazing news right? So I get the sample today and enjoy a nice little laugh to myself. Because this time it has a tracking number on it! OH HOH! "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me." comes to mind here.
Helluva nice guy.
