Stacked Blends?

I’ve the last bit of MM965 sitting in the jar for the past few weeks. It’s only about half bowl’s worth. Lately I’ve moved to smoking Balkan Sasieni almost exclusively. But that MM sitting there, taking up a whole jar has been irking me for a couple days. I figured I’d just stop in the B&M and snag some more to dump on top of it, but they were sold out last time I went in. So tonight I filled half the bowl with Balkan Sasieni, and dumped the MM leftovers on top. Probably could’ve just mixed the two up instead of making a tobacco edition Black and Tan, but hey. To tell the truth, I didn’t notice much difference once I lit it. Just a nice English smoke. The Balkan is a little more robust and flavorful as I’ve now hit the midpoint. These two blends played nicely together tonight.

First time I’ve done this tbh. Any of you rowdymen ever done this two vastly different blends where the flavor noticeably shifts through the bowl?

Yeah. In the past, I’ve just blended them up together like a mystery blend. I like the parfait analogy. Donkey taught me in the first Shrek movie that everybody loves a parfait.

Like layered shots? B-52? Once down the hatch, I can't tell which layer is which. I layer the blend when I have very little left, but I typically do it to similar blends.

To me, these two blends are pretty similar. Everybody goes on about the presence of the brown cavendish in MM giving it a sweet tinge. I like MM a lot, but I never really notice the sweetness.

I've mixed two pinches of Ashton Gold Rush with one pinch of Sutliff Black Swan. Tasted quite nice, a bit like a lemon tart dessert.

It's certainly an interesting concept. I should try doing it more.

I have a mild cherry cavendish which I sometimes pack half a bowl with first and put a medium English on top.at the start of the smoke you get the typical English flavours with a ever so subtle hint of cherry but then when the cherry part starts it gets sweeter but not as sweet as it would normally be, I call it my steak and cherry pie pack. The cherry is Holland house. The English is typically something like st James flake etc. medium flavour and strength. Always smoked in a cob as it does tend to ghost

I've done it with similar blends. Did it with a bit of GLP Cairo and C&D Byzantium. I slapped a label on it and called it Nile Dawn, something of my own creation.

Lol it is definitely half and half. But in this instance I quite like it. It's by no mens a custom blend. Just a mix I do occasionally to try something different

Maybe that is what partially inspired me to use Half and half. I remember this only because I did it recently, and because I just had about 1/2 a bowl left of either tobacco, I think the other tobacco was MB Dark Twist Roll Cut.

I seem to remember Pipestud doing this with Five Brothers and Royal Yacht? I think Brian interviewed him on one of the shows where he mentioned that. I've personally mixed blends and had mixed results. However, I've never tried stacking like that. I think I might have to experiment...

I was making a smoked cherry parfait by layering a poor tasting cherry Cavendish with a Latakia blend. It worked and allowed me to finish the cherry blend.

I frequently add Five Brothers to different tobacco (especially aromatic blends) to make the underlying tobacco more stout.

Note, while I make parfaits by stacking blends instead of mixing them, I don't necessarily get separate flavors as the bowl progresses. One flavor may be more pronounced at first, but no flavor stands alone to my simpleton palate.

I've really developed an interest in Parfaits. : )
Some of my ventures:
An English or a Balkan on the bottom (1/3 or 1/2) with a Virginia or a Vaper on top. As you smoke down, you then "discover" the "richness" of the Latakia.
Same on the bottom, but some type of an Aro (Vanilla, Cherry, Maple, etc) on top.
Some type of an Aro on the bottom, even something like Mac Baren's Scottish, with a Virginia on top. You smoke down through the Virginia & then "discover" the Aro.
My experience is with "double Parfaits". Haven't done any "triples" or "quads" yet.

NOTE:
With some Virginias (the "hard" flake chunks like FVF, Dark Star, etc), I'll add some dried out crumbs on top. I don't consider this a Parfait. The crumbs are more like kindling. I'll even space out the addition of the crumbs throughout the harder flakes just to enhance the burn. And as somebody else has mentioned, I've also added bits (crumbs) of an English or a Balkan throughout a bowl of Virginia or Burley, giving a taste (tease) of the "richer" Latakia.
I like what Cosmic has said about twisting some coins or flakes together, but this is more mixing than a Parfait.
I also like what some others have said about mixing maybe two different Virginias together with many different combos. Examples could be maybe Wessex Brown or Red Flake with some type of bright flake = Mac Baren's Virginia #1 or Union Square. This is close to something like McClelland Virginia Woods where there are already three different Virginia's already blended.
It's all great fun.

Mixing is a whole 'nuther thing & I may be offering thoughts on that later.
