I first read this as AA and immediately thought how having a hangover all day made this scenario even more confusing.

I drove to Mars Cigars 8-9 years ago, and then, they had no open store either. Did they ever have a store front? Their website shows a PO Box address.

Here's the important question. Were you smoking a pipe or cigar during the drive there and on the return trip? If so, not a big deal. If not .... I don't want to beat you up any further. Shit happens, you had good intentions which are the same thing the road to hell is paved with.
Remind me of the time I drove 3 hours for Phillips crab cake. Their SC restaurant was shut down. But had one at their MD rest stop shop. I know I could get it at the local supermarket, but just not the same thing.
Heh. The only times I don't make a phone call to check that a place is open is when it's closed, fortunately, not often, but it happens to everyone, be it a ten minute drive or much longer.

Yes, it wasn’t totally lost on me but I was just being pissy from lack of new tobacco. I ended up going to some tobacco palace that I found in GPS which I confused for another place, ended up being some crap store in a horrible mall although I did have a Cinnabon.
In hindsight I did somewhat enjoy the randomness of being in an area I did not know without a smartphone. Some gas station attendant down the street from where Mars should of been or is still tried to confirm the address on his phone. Hard to believe those days of asking directions, or perhaps a restaurant recommendation from a stranger at a gas station are pretty much over. Not much randomness left in life these days.
Interesting point: I have not had good information from a gas station attendant, or random person on the street for fifty years. Most common reply. "I dunno. I don't live here".
