Beautiful! Beyond buying beautiful pipes that smoke amazingly from the first bowl, I really want to encourage them. The last few times I've been in the store, it's been looking a bit bleak. It would be horrible to see them go out of business.
That is sad to hear. Are they allowed to sell by mail within Canada?

Hello all,

I happened to be in Montreal last week with my cousin Olav from Norway. We popped into the store on rue President Kennedy and Pierre was working the counter.

It was immediately shocking to see the wall of tobacco behind the counter was void and empty of pipe tobacco. Quebec law prohibits the selling of flavoured tobacco. I was speaking with Pierre about the lack of display and he told me that that law about no flavouring along with the difficulty in securing just regular pipe tobacco from any distributors is proving difficult to keep any worthwhile inventory. So sad.

I honestly think that their cigar sales, and their pipes that they sell are keeping them afloat for now. Robert poked his head out from behind the shop. He was busy making a pipe but came out to say a quick hello.

I had brought a tin of BCA that I had in my cellar for either Robert or Pierre (whomever was there when I visited). It ended up being Pierre. I presented him with the tin and said that I had brought it for him. He was very touched. He then said that there was one tin of flavoured tobacco left in the whole store - the last one - and he went back and then brought it out to show me. It was a tin of Stanwell Vanilla. He told me to enjoy it. It was 15 yrs old. Still well sealed and I myself was touched with his generosity.

I perused the pipes in the store. These are kept behind and within glass cases. I saw that on the left hand side of the store they had a small section for ‘estate pipes’ most Blatter but some other brands as well.

I went to sneak a peek at some of the other cases and saw two pipes that caught my eye. They were both flawless straight grain plateau topped pipes. Both were ‘two dot’ pipes - a Select pipe designation reserved for their very best pipes. I already have in my collection a Blatter plateau top pipe similar to the one I was looking at (one dot). This one pictured captured my interest because of the addition of the band and the grain on it was amazing. No fills or sandpits anywhere. Even my cousin, who knows nothing about pipes, but a LOT about guitars, saw the beauty of this one.

I told Pierre I’d like to see it up close. “Certainly, Monsieur”, he replied. “Let me get my key and get that for you.” He unlocked the display case and handed the pipe to me. I looked it over. Robert Blatter made the pipe. It was the 22nd pipe made in 2025, so it was very recently made. I told him I would like to take it home with me. “Absolutely, Monsieur,” he replied. He looked at my cousin and said, “He just bought the best pipe in the whole store.” Of course, before the deal was made I made sure my wife, who was out on the sidewalk outside, assented and agreed thereby avoiding any cardiac events when she saw the bill.

We said our goodbyes and carried on with our tour of Montreal.

What a great day. Here is the pipe photographed for those of you who care to see what it looks like.

This is my first Blatter that I just picked up from eBay but hopefully not the last! I have been wanting a large billiard but haven’t seen one pop up anywhere in the couple years I’ve been looking. Does anyone know if they do commissions and what is the best way to reach them? I’ve tried multiple emails through the website and called a couple times but have never reached anyone. I won’t be in Canada anytime soon but I’m willing to pay the tax

Very nice pipe! Yes - the store is still open although things have seemed slow as of late. But Patrick's still regularly in and should be able to answer you. Let us know how it goes.
