I have several. All Bill Taylors. Here’s one of them.
Alas, I have none yet to show. Seems like a bizarre sort of landmine purchase where one has to know something to buy a good one.
That’s interesting. I haven’t found that to be the case. I currently have 5 that are all great. The dot logo on my Churchwarden is slightly off center but that’s the only negative thing I’ve found. Will post pics later.
I just mean that people make references to a so-and-so Ashton versus a someone-else Ashton. And that they claim quality differences.

The Ashton Old Church Zulu with brindle stem (not sure of shape number as I’m not around my pipe at the moment) ...the only Ashton I own & it’s a brilliant smoker.

Here are my seven Ashtons, all great smokers. The apple (top left) was my first pipe I paid above $100 for, and is about to go for its second replacement stem, it sees the miles.
One of my favorites, a Sovereign. It has been mounted with silver taken from an old German pipe circa 1880.
I have multiple from J Craig era manufacturing, very satisfied with the Price/quality ratio,one of the best smoking machines I have come to know, though the stem bit zone shaping on Craigs Ashtons might have been done a bit more human-friendly way, but all this is subjective

My 5 Ashtons - all of them were NOS except for the Churchwarden which I purchased new.
Pipes are smoked by sophisticated aficionados of the weed. As such the traditional black of the stem, or Cumberland if you're feeling a might bit frisky, is entirely fitting. The cascade of color in the stem above belongs to a circus and is nothing I would clench.

My first Ashton just arrived today after making several tours of California through the, usually excellent in my experience, postal system.
It is an XX Pebble Grain. I'd been referring to it as the craggedy-assed Ashton, but some of the gorgeous blasts in this thread result surpass it in craggedy-assness.
