Dripping alcohol around the stummel may remove some stain. Two things: drip alcohol around the stem/stummel connection. Or...(perhaps easier) just stick it in the freezer for ten minutes.
So I don't recommend you do that

Sorry, I meant at the connection between the stummel and stem. There is no wood there. If concerned about stain, tilt the stem end down slightly.Dripping alcohol around the stummel may remove some stain.

I just got this pipe recently, yesterday I finally got around to preparing it for smoking. It didn’t really need much, mostly just some cleaning.
I like plain, classic shaped pipes (usually) and this one fits right in. As soon as I figure out what I want to smoke, I’m going to put this pipe into use.
For those that care about such things, it is a Killarney Natural, a Peterson Product. Shape 606, made in London England. Based on my on research and the help of others here, it seems to be from the 50s.
One question, did Peterson have a name for this metal tube, or is it just considered another type of stinger?
Nice! I don’t think it’s functionally a stinger, more line Dunhill’s inner tube. Don’t know if it has a name but I think I have one on one of my grandfather’s pre-republic deluxes - a straight pot.I just got this pipe recently, yesterday I finally got around to preparing it for smoking. I have run across a few of them in Petersons. Most recently, in a late 1930's-early 1940's bent rustic.Nice! I don’t think it’s functionally a stinger, more line Dunhill’s inner tube. I was thinking about an emerald 150! Nice!I happened to be up a little after midnight on Friday morning when the new rusticated Emerald P-lip series went live at Smoking Pipes and ordered a 150. It arrived this morning. Beautiful pipe. Looking forward to enjoying a bowl later this afternoon.

I've been in touch with Mark Irwin, and he told me my pipe is from the last run done in the '70s or early '80s, so a good number of years after 1963. He's helped me date a couple of other Petersons, but, also within a date range, which is still awesome, because it's more than I could've pinpointed on my own.I thought some of you might've missed this in the May 2022 *What Are You Smoking?* thread a couple of days ago, so, I thought I would post this here. Here's a Peterson Clay System Bent Billiard Shape 8 (similar to a 313) with an orific bit, not a P-Lip. The nickel band is seamless, so this clay pipe is from sometime after 1963 and was probably made in Scotland by Duncan McDougall.

Have been tempted by the Rathbone in the past. Don't get the hate for the bowl coating. Don't even notice it when I first light up a new pipe-last new one bought was over a year ago, though.I just bought this Sherlock Holmes PSB Rathbone tonight. Looking forward to getting it here. After I remove the nasty bowl coating, I plan on filling it with a nice Virginia or VaPer.
All the newer Peterson's I have bought I definitely notice it. I never did anything about it in the past, though. Just smoked through it. I'm glad you don't notice it. To me it just makes it taste funky for a long time.Have been tempted by the Rathbone in the past. Don't get the hate for the bowl coating.
