This new Altinay arrived a few days ago, and as beautiful as it is, I haven't been able to smoke it yet. When I opened it up, I was hit in the face by a really strong solvent-like chemical odor. I mean it burnt my sinuses when I smelled it! I wrote to Altinay right after to ask about it. Apparently it was shipped right after the custom case was made, and it didn't have time to properly air out and dry. They have an option to have a case made now for an extra $25. He said to let it sit out for a few days and the odor should dissipate. As of tonight it seems to have mostly faded. I'm hoping to give it a go tomorrow 🙏.

A no-named small-bowled Santa-themed meer, and my first proper figural I think? I was real worried about the longevity of a pipe like this, and lo and behold, when it arrived and I assembled it, there were stress fractures in Santa’s head near the drill point for the bowl itself once the bowl was stuck inside. Pointed it out to the seller and I got a complete refund and they told me to just keep it. Very cool!
I intend to smoke it until it falls into disrepair, for despite its interest in possibly falling to bits, the beautiful little thimble of a bowl seems to be hungry to color, as well as the ends of Santa’s beard and a bit of the shank. It may be all of an inch deep at best, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy coloring it.

Been waiting for this one, a brand new splotchy no-name billiard with an acrylic military mount, the last meer acquisition of this MMM. Absolutely in love with the stem. Can’t be more than an inch and a quarter deep, but I’m very interested in watching this one take color as I don’t have a meer that shares its particular kind of splotchy quality, which I tried to capture a bit better below:

A new long (-ish) bastard of an H. Ege for the collection! Looks gorgeous, with a fun irregular funnel-shaped mushroom look to it, and just look at those carvings atop the bowl! It also sports a very agreeable .75 x 1.8 inch deep bowl. The mouthpiece is a little chunky, but I don’t think it’ll bother me once I get used to it, but on a brighter note, it seems to fit folded & stuffed flake tobacco like a charm.

A new to me unsmoked D.P. Ehrlich Co. meer with a 14k gold band and what I think is a Bakelite stem.
To me, calling it an absolute beauty nears comic understatement.
The seller thought it likely to be around 100-120 years old, but as I don’t have any way of knowing that for certain, I can’t say. If anyone has any information to help date the pipe, I’d love to know!
The pipe sits at 81 grams, with a length of seven inches, an inch wide conical chamber, and an inch and a half deep.

Fantastic score, what a cool looking pipe. I hope you post pictures as it colors more.

While I get my sea legs back about me, I’ve been working through some of my own pipes to get back in the swing of things so to speak. Stem making is not like riding bike, it’s a use it or loose it skill. So here I’ve used it to return this 1913 Ben Wade Meer gifted to me by a friend, back to its former glory. The stem is tortoise shell acrylic with a period correct orific button and a bone screw tenon.
