I've been piecing together a 12 day set of Sterncrest Sterling's for about a year. Here is a link to the original post if anyone wants to see the close ups.

I've seen the Purex and Certified Purex models, but this is a new one for me. LHS Purex Preferred. I ran across two LHS Preferred models, one which is unsmoked with the original box and sock. I put a more money than brains bid on these to secure the win.

This is the second Preferred. It had some mileage but was in great shape.

A side by side comparison with a Savinelli 320. The 320 and #99 are roughly the same size.

Sometimes you just have to bid with your heart. Imagine how it would have felt had it sliped away. Nice grab and the collection really needed that piece. That's what I always tell myself. Dutch

I might have to pawn a kidney if a Sterncrest Special Make ever pops up for sale. $25 back then was about $600 today.

Very nice score Dave, will the NOS remain unsmoked? I couldn't bring myself to if it were me.
I've picked this one up a few times with the intent of smoking it for the first time but backed off for the same reason dave g said. I've got plenty of others to use.

Old and unsmoked are a great addition when I can obtain them and I can't bring myself to smoke them. Having many others does make it easier but I have several estates that I've never gotten around to smoking even after cleaning them up. I really like these LHS's but must resist the temptation :crying:

Tuold... That's a real beauty. Even the sock is mint. When I gain possession of a very old NOS pipe, I think of myself as a caretaker for the next generation. These Sterncrest's are pushing 70 years old or more and there can't be very many NOS examples left out there. I never can bring myself to fire up an old unsmoked briar when I have so many good burners in rotation.
