Please forgive the low-quality cell phone pics, but here are the two LHS pipes that were included in a large estate lot that I won a few months back.

The lower one is a Warwick:

And the upper one is a Purex Superfine that's been customized:

My weak google-fu has revealed that UMWA 50 is United Mine Workers of America District 50 formed in 1941, and 13013 represents the union-established starting salary.
I don't know when I'm going to be able to get to cleaning these up, there are at least two or three in front of them and time is a commodity I have little of these days. When I do, I'll be sure to post after pics here.

Here's an old LHS Bakelite I recently rediscovered in my pipe accumulation:

Back in the rotation. The old pipe provides a very nice smoke.
Did I forget to include this recent NOS find? Maybe it bears a second look!

This thread does illustrate that if you love a pipe and it smokes great, stinger is not a dirty word.

Most of my LHS pipes are push stem and stinger free.
@tuold

I'm not sure when it was made. There is little mention of Melloroot online. Google image search shows all Mellowroots to have a smooth finish and cumberland stem.

Stingers in the modern pipe world are a nuisance such that the common practice seems to be to remove them. I would guess that they are/were part of pipe manufacturing to manage the airflow to prevent the airstream from condensing, producing gurgle? But if so can it be said that a stinger does this any better than a well-fashioned airway? It would seem the modern take is that they do not; thus the practice of removing them?

After collecting estate pipes for a couple of years now, my experiance is that smokers let the stingers get so fouled they did become constricted. Rather than take the time to clean their pipes it seems they just clipped the stinger off or pulled it off and threw it away. It's a completely understandable thing to do for somebody who is only interested in burning tobacco and getting a good smoke. It's not so great for a collector who would rather own a pipe in a more complete configuration.
Just like other things in life, you either keep it clean dry and serviceable or you snip it off!

My latest LHS is this "Bancroft". I wasn't able to find anything about this line of pipes, but I'm thinking it must have been one of their older budget lines. I like the refined but simple and sleek design.
The red dot on top of the stem was also used on LHS Aladdin pipes but this one is much smaller.
