Gorgeous pipes. I have several Canadians I value a lot. For one of them, see psychpipes Benton, amost

identical to my Iwan Ries house pipe made by Benton. Also have a Johs and a Stanwell brushed black.

The Canadian is the stateliest pipe shape to my eye, a great traditional look.

I'm finally up to a seven day Canadian rotation.
Dave- what is the maker on the pipe on the left propped against the cigar box? That is a fine Canadian. In my opinion, the size on a Canadian can easily be overdone, I think the shape looks best at a Size 3 or even 2.

I really like the Canadian and currently have three of them. I'd like to acquire a couple more, one of those being a Savinelli Ontario 812 Natural.
Dave that is a real nice seven day collection you have there!

I do have a smaller Ashton Canadian. Pebble Grain, X. Has a beautiful blast and finish and I like it a lot.

Dang Eddy- that is a beaut! Let me know if you ever want to sell that one- I have been looking for an Ashton like that for 3 years. Is it a Bill Taylor?

Some lovely pipes there. Looking at the picture of the Don Carlos, which I have one of, I just realised it is a Canadian too. See my profile for a pic. While I do find that thick-walled pipes smoke very reliably for me, there is an elegance to a slender billiard which I find very agreeable. And of course, being able to do without a stand is convenient. I wonder if the membership have found any particular characteristics unique to this shape? My DC is currently being used for SG. Navy flake, which it likes very much.

I didn't know until this thread that there was such a classification.
Where can a man read up on all the different pipe shapes and classifications?

Hey hiplainsdrifter,
thanks! I guess, I cannot sell it - it has some history behind it. It was a gift of a friend of mine. Now I'm living 800 miles north and we cannot meet regularly any longer, so it's nice to have that pipe.
Btw - it has a very, very slight crack in the shank. For years now I'm always thinking about fixing this with a silver band but on the other hand the mouthpiece doesn't fit tightly at all, so it's OK.
Is it a Bill Taylor?
To be honest: I don't know. How can I see if it is a Bill Taylor? The pipe is stamped "Ashton Pebble Grain" "X" "Made in England" "J0" or "JO"...

It is a nice one, crack or no crack. Generally you can tell if it was made by Bill Taylor or Jimmy Craig based off the year of manufacture, but I forget what the cutoff year is.
