My Garnet Grain arrived today, after pushing a pipe cleaner dipped in moonshine through the stem and bowl, I packed her full of Faulkner and am loving this purchase. Since I don't know a lot about Barling's can someone tell me what that 2 means?

My first Barling. I bought it on eFlay... my first ebay pipe purchase and first I got not in person.
I didn't know this from the auction, but it marked Barling Make International. T.V.F. Shape 903. It is marked "2nd" on the underside near the stem. Is this somehow a 2nd version of this shape, or a factory 2nd?? I have not found any info on this stamping. I was hoping this was one of the good-ol-collectors versions, but I'll enjoy it just the same. It will get a bit of cleanup, but it's in fairly good condition.

I would guess the 2 is the same "2nd" that is on my pipe (see post after yours, tho I didnt post a photo of the "2nd" mark. I don't know if this is a marking for 2nd quality, 2nd version, or what... perhaps someone more in the know can help us both.

Okay Barling Historians… do you think this stem is original to the pipe? It fits extremely well and lines up precisely. I see no cross on the stem or remnants of one, even through the oxidation.

Full disclosure: I bought this one to resell.

Thank you for any help with this one.

I have never seen a Barling button shaped like this one. It looks like a button for an orific bit, which this is not.
The pipe is an EL size, so way too late for this to be a conversion from orific to slot.
It’s an odd, well made replacement.

I am finally joining the club with my first Barling🎉
I was initially looking for something older, but I really liked this one, when I saw it.🥰

The C letter appears to be for 1958, nice find and restoration.
I have a K letter sandblast from 1965, it is an excellent smoking pipe (pictured on the Barlings Pipepedia page). There aren't many examples from that era on the webpage, you should submit that one.

Wrong column. The pipe dates to 1977.
