We share our home with many feathery friends, so thought I’d post some pics of some you only see down under. What’s native to your area?

This is a tui. Priest of the ngāhere (bush). Has the most beautiful song which is created by its two voice boxes.

This is a pipiwharauroa. It’s distinctive call marks the coming of spring. Unfortunately they also like windows.

This is a ruru. In the early hours it wakes me up with its call “more pork”. Only once have I heard it’s second more sacred squark which sounds like the cry of a kiwi.

The New Jersey State Bird is the Mosquito ?

However, since I’m on the ocean, Seagulls are everywhere. As well as Red Robins, Blue Jays and teams of other species along the coastal waterways.

We also have Hoosier Birds as depicted above. This is Jersey!

You guys just out grabbing birds with your bare hands, like a supermarket. Pretty cool.

A featureless, featherless, organless, headless bird usually found in groups of 12 or more.They enjoy a colder temperature, but towards the end they can be found in temperatures of 400○ or more.

Seriously @Ahi Ka , the southern hemisphere has some incredible birds and this won't even be close.

Years ago when my wife and I were in Australia, we were amazed at the number of cockatoos around Cairns. I remember driving through residential areas taking pictures of them, they were everywhere like sparrows here. The locals must have thought we were nuts.

We get these all of the time, and I think that they are attracted to the bamboo next to my house. They are much larger than you'd think, and they look more like a lizard than a bird in person.

We get these rare but beautiful little blue birds occasionally.

I could go on but, enough is enough.

We've got these guys all over our neighborhood, and they help cull the stray cat population. You can hear them squawking to each other at high noon in the tall trees.

One last one. These guys fly in from Chile, stay a few weeks and then return, never touching land on the migration.
