Beautiful pipe!! By a American carver. Stem is a easy fix. Maybe after you get it shined up, coat it with some wax to protect it. It helps A lot.
Using a brass brush and wood or grain alcohol, brush the exterior clean. Then wax with canabua wax. Then search how to clean vulcanite.

Visiting a local pipe shop in San Antonio TX I found a bargain Dunhill. It called to me....could anyone confirm the age of the pipe?

I purchased a 5117 Cumberland in 2011, brand new at IRC in Chicago. Same box and pipe sock. You can at least date it to 2011. I paid about $500 for mine, although a 5 is larger and a Cumberland.

It’s the big one. I had to do a lot of moving around, trading, etc to get to be able to add this one to my collection. I had the opportunity to buy another one last year but passed, it was more of a natural stain and finish which I didn’t care for. This one was exactly what I was looking for those dark witch hair grain. The nomenclature is above average and the pipes condition is excellent.

There’s a Specimen Bulldog on the Bay right now that should break a few records.
I seen it. That’s the color I don’t like. Doesn’t really show the grain. I believe those were later but I don’t know for sure. . The nomenclature is buffed pretty good on that one However I’d love to own it. It’s a rare one so it’ll do great.

I’m definitely not in the market, but I imagine plenty are.

Yes sir I imagine it will go for moon money. That grade and shape are rare. I am not interested in this one either. However I’ll be watching.

Cased set from 1913. They need some cleaning, but will definitely be put in rotation.

I have a very similar bulldog, only in gold filigree banding. At some point years ago after I acquired it (1975) I fit it with a Charatan DC bit. I don't smoke my antiques, as I have enough in my regular collection, more than a person should have. Nice set with fitted case and amber bits you got.20210129_094959_compress55.jpg20210129_094948_compress75.jpg Mine is not marked on the briar, making me think it once had a fitted case with maker's mark.

Here is another interesting pipe in my collection of antiques. The pipe has a meerschaum interior with a red glass exterior shell and gold filigree banding. It probably had an amber bit at one time. I fit it with a red lucien bit to match the glass. Victorian era I'm sure.20210129_095101_compress45.jpg
