Thought it maybe a fun thread. Pick any pipe in your collection and inform the forum about it. I’ll start . This is a Comoys Special straight grain. It’s impossible to date , it’s after WW2 and before 1979. The Special straight grain was not available to purchase at your local tobacco shop. They had to special order it. It did not appear on any Comoys price list. These when available were quite rare. These pipes were offered at about the same rate as Comoys Specimen. 1 in every 10,000 pipes were good enough. This pipe has absolutely no fills and beautiful grain. These are some of Comoys best pipes. As someone who loves Comoys pipes this is a real treasure in my collection. A lot of the ones I have seen Special and Speciman and don’t have the Comoy name or 3 piece C. There are some that do and some don’t. I’m not sure if that was a 1CD9D911-AFF3-4D22-A267-F0CFEF28E9C0.jpeg5E347CEB-366C-497F-BD5D-3472A4333939.jpeg1E950C9F-7B6D-464D-9306-972F2774BEF2.jpeg0D697200-1F64-452B-A419-A70260E63CE5.jpeg34314D63-4501-4048-ACBF-86C213368774.jpegoption when purchasing.

That's a scene I'll be seeing tomorrow. Loaded some yard cobs this evening and got my tools out to work on my car. Valve cover gasket leak. Sideways 6 so the intake plenum, throttle body and all the garbage on the firewall has to come out. Not to mention there are 15 seperate seals per valve cover...geeesh. Makes me appreciate working on my old Nova. I figure it's a four cob job.

Here is a Walt Disney World pipe that I recently finished restoring/refreshing (I've done some work since these pics). I left it pretty much original and haven't messed with the stain or anything similar. These were sold at, you guessed it, Disney World. This one does have an original stem but the Mickey head was all but gone when I got it and I couldn't save it. If I were to guess, I'd say this was a Tracy Mincer pipe or one of the many knockoffs. The rustication and the font of the Imported Briar stamp say to me it was probably original though.

One of the pleasures of collecting vintage pipes are pipes that tell a story. Consider this Sasieni 8 Dot:
Ux4Gx8W.jpg

It is hallmarked for 1941, so it was released during the second World War. 8 Dots were made for the US market. This pipe made an Atlantic crossing in the middle of a World War so that someone could enjoy a fine pipe.
Another interesting thing about this pipe is the bowl. Though the ferrule is date stamped for 1941, the stampings on the bowl indicate that the bowl is from a much earlier time. Shipments of briar had ceased and pipe makers were looking through their old stock to see what they could find, fix up, and put into service.
It reminds me that people can be resilient in times of great disruption and stress, and continue to go about their daily business even under the most trying of circumstances.

Another pipe is this Lindbergh commemorative:

It was made to commemorate Lindbergh's solo trans Atlantic flight.

2 fantastic pipes Jesse!! Love the history of them. Who was the maker of the Lindbergh pipe? That’s one historical pipe.
I don't know who made the Lindbergh pipe. Pipephil gives a picture of several Lindbergh pipes, one of which is clearly made by the same maker of my pipe, and says they were made by several unknown French makers. Mine is unsmoked and has a meerschaum lined bowl. The stem logo is a capital L in a circle, so it's just another commemorative marking.

This pipe is special to me because when I purchased it off an eBay seller it was described this way “Pipe, what you see it what you get, shipping is $4.99 unless multiple items are purchased. If that’s the case, wait for an invoice.”

The seller’s other items were clearly from a storage unit of some kind and this was the pipe of the roughly 400 items for sale. This pipe was kept for some reason

I’ll have to dig the as purchased pictures of it out. It was an absolute train wreck, but my eye caught the lines and I decided for $24.99 plus shipping I couldn’t go wrong.

I sent it out for professional cleaning and restoration. It turns out it’s a 1922 Loewe Billiard. It’s definitely one of my best pipes for many reasons.

The biggest lesson I took away from this is it set the hooks in me for old pipes and it let me know that someone’s pipe trash can be a buried treasure. I have since purchased many old pipes. Some are winners and a few a train wrecks even after full life support measures were taken.

Here it is 1922 Loewe Billiard

I'll play. A Larsen Sven Knudsen designed shape 72 from June of this year. A rare shape, it took me seven years of looking to find this one, and it turned out to be brand new, and unsmoked with the original box!

Former said it was the hardest of the "catalog" shapes to make.

In terms of just looks, my favorite shaped pipe is my 1966 Dunhill LB Billiard. To my eye it is the finest shaped Billiard in my collection.

As for a great sandblast and a great shape this Rad Davis is one of my favorites. It is a tad big being a group 6 sized pipe but when I want a good 2.5-3 hour smoke, this puppy will keep me puffing for a nice long time. It smokes my 2012 Rotary Navy Cut like a champ and I never tire of it no matter how long I keep it puffing.

This has been one of my favorite pipes for many years. Made by Craig Cooper of Colorado. I believe he's a member of the forum too. I saw this pipe for sale here on the forum about 2013, but was too late to snag it. It showed up here a couple of years later and I jumped on it! Just a plain billiard, but with a long stem and some interesting grain. I don't think Mr. Cooper is still making pipes, but he had made an interesting set of pipes at one time based on the old movie Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home. Lots of pipe smoking by Cary Grant and Melvyn Douglas.

I posted it here when I was restoring it. But in case you didn’t see it or are new it’s a early 1900s Henri Comoy pipe. This is Before Comoy put their name on Pipes. It’s finished now. At least as much as I can do. As a huge Comoy fan boy this checked all my boxes.
