Nickleback is one of those bands....
You can't argue that Chad Kroeger has a pretty bad-ass rock voice. The sound is pretty rockin' as well. As far as rock bands go, they are pretty solid. However, their music is not "complex" like bands such as Tool or Coheed & Cambria.
They are kind of the "meat and potatoes" of rock. A good band with the right rock elements (like AC/DC).
Interesting you mention Tool & Coheed & Cambria in the same sentence. I get it and I like both… well, new Coheed not so much. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth was brilliant and they are both proggy, Codeed just went a different direction that I’m not too fond of. Personally, I think their last great album was Good Apollo…
Tool on the other hand, they are as good as it gets, it’s not likely we will see other bands with the magic that these 4 have when playing together, their chemistry is amazing. They are one of the only bands that I like more as an adult than I did when I was a 12 year old kid jamming Undertow and I loved them then too. When they released Ænema, my adolescent mind was blown away, they changed the game and they’ve been throwing out masterpieces with every release. We’ve had bands like this before their time, ie; Pink Floyd, King Crimson & Led Zeppelin to name a few but I’m skeptical that we’ll see another great like Tool. I blame the streaming services, they killed the album as a whole, you have the access to all the music in the world in your pocket, no one has time to digest complex music like this anymore and kids aren’t listening to albums, so where’s the inspiration?
Not to say there isn’t good music coming out these days, there certainly is, I’m just worried about generation Alpha (I think that’s what they are calling it?).
I have an eclectic taste in music, I am also a big fan of Ween, Mr. Bungle and all that weird, trippy shit.
