Same Peterson Design but One has Deeper Reservoir.

I am a big fan of the Peterson Pub pipe. I received a new one today and I noticed that the reservoir chamber is noticeably more shallow in the one that arrived today.

Will the more shallow rendition of the Pub Pipe make for a less dry smoking experience?

The dark brown pipe in the photo is deeper than the black rusticated.



It is grounds for a return?

I don't think you have a problem. I'm a dry smoker and never get much moisture in the well at all. Somebody was thinking about 5 o'clock too much at the drill press, I suspect. Just keep the well clean and don't over think it! Enjoy.

I doubt you'll find it a problem, unless you smoke a lot of damp tobacco. The shallower well is shallower by about what percentage?

Shouldn't be a problem. It's not like a wind instrument that needs to be emptied out frequently. Never had one of my System pipe fill up with whatever that liquid is called.

I'm with Searock, by my experience, I just don't notice any effect, perhaps its just my smoking style/blend choices.

From the photo, it seems they obviously missed a step in the System process which is boring the reservoir itself. Does that make it a Sytem pipe anymore? I doubt it. So I would return it based on this criteria.
And I would return it especially considering your pipe has a silver cap on it, which makes it much more expensive than a regular rustic.

Missed an entire step? I don't think that is accurate; the reservoir is shallower than another pipe he has, which is of concern.

Any idea how many years apart the two pipes might've been made? Peterson may just drill pipes differently these days. The shallower drilling looks like it will be easier to clean.

think you need to look at the photo more closely.The well is definitely drilled,just not so deep.

I ve got several Petersons from different time periods drilled differently with shallow or deep wells..No problem here at all...Just call it a variation...or you can drill it deeper yourself if you prefer it that way...

None of my Petes have reservoirs, and they smoke well indeed. So, a smaller reservoir shouldn't be a problem.
