I was thinking of Harris this past week. I never found him abrasive as I enjoyed how he spoke his mind. I think he was often a bit abrasive here to "bust balls". Harris was a great friend and I miss our regular get togethers here in Sarasota. He provided more laughs for me than any other person I've ever met.

I will tell a Harris story. Around 20 years ago, we met up with 2 other Cigar Family friends to attend a herf in Rockford. After partying rather heavily the previous night, we were wolfing down breakfast at an IHOP when this moron manager came over, interrupted us and started trying to be funny by telling really lame jokes. Harris never looked up, just kept eating, After about a minute of the stupidity, again, without looking up, Harris said "Get the Fuck out of here". The delivery was priceless, I spit a mouthful of pancake out on my plate. Vintage Harris.
Yeah abrasive was probably the wrong word, forthright, spoke his mind would be a better choice. I've just been reading his posts and laughing like a drain but also noting his care of members and answering questions along the way. I've just found a great post of his with a list of fake, coin and rope tobaccos he liked along with info on what time of day he liked to smoke them. I will post it once I find it again for prosperity.

This makes me sad. The world just got a bit less classy. Harris had such a great attitude and outlook, always spoke his mind, and could disarm anyone with his humor. I, for one, will miss him! RIP, Sir.

Welcome to pmag! Where ya from?

Meanwhile, this was 2 years and almost three months ago front page news.

Harris was such a glorious, fun loving prick. I miss having him around.

I was active here before then and had many great conversations with him. I just recently started coming back on here and didn’t know he had passed. I’m thinking now of a few other names I haven’t seen since returning.

I’m terribly sorry for anyone who knew this man and called him a friend. He sounds like such a cool feller that I’m just as saddened I didn’t join this site early enough to have gotten to know the man as I am by his passing. I’m sure he will be sorely missed and I pray the good lord give all of you who knew him the strength and solace needed in a time like this. Especially his close friends and family. i always hate reading threads like this but I’m glad I had the opportunity to. Thanks for posting hoosierpipeguy. 🙏
He was a bit like a stinky cheese. At first you wonder how people could like him/it and then you start enjoying having them around. And then you feel like they are unique and special.

He was abrasive for sure. It took a while to see why people liked him so much. But he was certainly abrasive. Worse things to be then that. I think he wasn't out of line and if he was I don't think he would have been widely loved.

Here is the real thing that made me comment here. I think he was nicer to that fellow then he should have been. I think I would have told him "people come here to eat not because they like you." and if given the chance after that "people don't like you they're just polite".

Reading through some of these responses, I can't remember a time when I found Harris abrasive. I saw him more as "Boston Nice". He did his fair amount of schtick, and I had more than a little fun jousting with him on a couple of occasions. But, he was always very helpful to other members here, just a bit unfiltered about stupidity.

Took me a more than minute to get a handle on him and had some insights courtesy of @hoosierpipeguy that were valuable -- I honestly don't know if he was serious, if it was just a thing related to some other challenges, or he was putting everyone on but I remember teasing him about more or less, haha, cornering the pipe cleaner market at one time - he was all in at some point on acquiring massive amounts of pipe cleaners - I don't think he thought it was as funny as I did based on his comments, but . . . maybe the joke was on me, and likely so.

I haven't been back in this thread since its early days, but it got my attention and I was going to simply post "F____ him!" - but chickened out because I was afraid some might not understand, and I'd never met him, and didn't want to step on any toes. Then I just read this! Priceless.

I had a friend who died during COVID days, from something else more horrible and he suffered a long time, and had to watch his funeral from afar on a funeral home livestream. I'll always remember a friend getting up to say a few words after the departed's brother and best friend had each had a few words, and he started with, "What's with you people, ________ was an asshole!" Everyone was laughing. And he wasn't, but he was, and he was a great human being.

Thanks for this making me think of that.

That’s like when he was buying up all of the obsidian oil around 2021!

Hello everyone, I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words. The last few years without my Dad has not been easy. But from time to time I come back to this forum and read all your comments about Harris. It really means alot to his kids to hear stories about our father. Please continue to tell your stories here because we do read them. Thank you from our entire family!

As many of your knew Harris was a collector of tobacco. Anyone interested in learning more about his collection please email me at gabbie.englander@gmail.com. If I do not respond right away it’s because I work very long hours and usually do not get to my personal emails till the weekend, but I will respond to you!
Your dad was one of the OGs on this forum when I joined. He was quick to share his wisdom, and quicker to spar verbally. He truly was a legend and is one of the fellas I miss most on here. I am sure it is still hard for you, but it is nice for us, who cares about him as a friend, to see his legacy carrying on with you and your siblings.

Peace to you and the rest of your family.

He had cajones.
One time because of some discussion we had, he thought I had an issue with him so he emailed me & asked me if I had a problem with him.
I didn't & told him so, but I felt bad that he thought that I did.
But the Man didn't shy away from anything.
