This thread reminded me to put out my Dupont lighters (mostly Ligne 2).

Sadly found one (Ligne 2 with matte black Ceramium A.C.T. coating) to have a leaking o-ring gasket in the regulator.

The lighter does not have the usual brass core and about half the weight for the regular Ligne 2. The serial number imprint is laser etched in white due to the matte finish.

Guess time to mail out for repair to put back into rotation.

They started doing the laser etched serials not too long ago, & now the L2 is built differently. They also have a few newer models that look similar to the L2.

I got another in. I have serious LAD. This one gave me fits the past two days trying to get it right. I finally have it working properly. Its the one on the far Left. Its done but waiting on a pipe nozzel. Im hunting for one more pattern and then I think I will consider the collection complete.

Looking good, man. I've had a couple silver-plated in that pattern on the left. Two had some really interesting patina which somewhat stayed behind even after my mild but effective anti-tarnish process, & one was just really nice & shiny with good reflectivity. Is yours one where you have to slide the flint shuttle out the back to remove it? Just wondering if that's what was giving you fits. =)

@EA-6B No, I could still take the cover off by pushing forward. The problem ended up being that the gas release cylinder needed a good polish and the hole cleaned. It kept snagging on me and giving an uneven flame. I have only done a few of these so Im learning by making all the mistakes.

Hey guys. With the line 1s. Can an engraving made on the little square on the lid be removed? How would you do it without damaging the lighter? I don’t have a buffing wheel.

Also, if the lid is slightly misaligned, is this an easy fix?

It really cannot be removed. Its too deep. You will also go through the plating and reveal raw brass.

I mean there is probably some way to do it but not someone that isnt skilled in jewelry work. It could likey be covered skillfully with a plate

Im curious about alignment becuase I see them askew often and just avoid those. My guess is you would need to remove the cap and have some sort of way to precisely square it up. When they get dropped they go out of saquare.

maybe @EA-6B knows

I usually try to avoid the lighters with additional engraving. Bought one by mistake because I overlooked the fact that no pics showed that panel on the front of the lid. Luckily it was an in-house engraving that looked pretty cool anyway, so I was able to find someone else who thought it looked cool too.

Got pics of the slight lid mis-alignment? Usually best to avoid & not much you can do about it, depending on what you're talking about.

Nice pattern!
I'd probably just live with that mis-alignment if I had it.
I wouldn't try to 'push' the lid over.
Sometimes that can be 'steered' back by pressing out & bending the hinge-pin & testing until you get it back (no guarantee), & there are some pitfalls in doing that where you might end up causing more damage to the hinge-pin hole or the outside of the lighter, unless you know what to do & have tools that will work. Personally I know what to watch out for & have basic tools that work, & I still leave L1 lids in place unless I absolutely have to remove one.

Yes, I wish these experts on YouTube would stop telling everyone to remove the lids. I got lucky and found a video of a spanish guy doing repairs and he illustrated how to disassemble properly. All of mine will come apart easily leaving the factory set hinge pins in place.

That is a nice pattern. I have yet to see it on the BR large lighters. Id probably grab one if I saw one.

Also, I wouldn't be concerned about the original pattern of the lighter carrying over & being engraved across the face of the lid. I forget what that area for the initials is called. But it's not common to see the pattern extend into there. I can't think of another pattern that does it, but there are probably others. I definitely wouldn't do anything to it, leave that stock.

Now that I think about it, I think Shane might have an L1 Tall where the hobnail pattern carries across the front of the lid, & the only difference is that there's no box engraved. Also, I've seen a couple other patterns where there is no box engraved, & the pattern just carries across the front of the lid.

Could also possibly be Palladium-plated. Does that one have a 'Pl' stamp on the bottom? If not, it still might be Pl plated. I've seen that pattern & a couple others for sale online in Pl plating, however it only said what it was plated with on the label on the box, from what I can remember. No 'Pl' stamp on the bottom like I've seen on some other Dupont Pl-plated lighters. I had one a while ago & it would develop a weird golden tarnish - different from the usual silver tarnish - & I thought it was probably Pl-plated even though not marked on the bottom. I didn't have the box.
'Pd', not 'Pl', sorry. Duh!

Nice ones! That pattern in silver is a lot of fun to play around with. Enjoy!
