Here is my experience, take it with the usual dash of salt: the two-year-old
Royal Yacht that I have developed plume, and is both sweeter and warmer in flavor. My guess is that 2-5 years pays off, but after that, diminishing returns result.

Technically,
Royal Yacht is an aromatic because it is topped with brandy/plum/ambrosia. But it is not a sodapop aromatic like most, more a background flavor that simulates Perique without the complexities of that variety of tobacco.
