As previous posts said, it has a distinctive flavor. A good, not off putting flavor. I like it on occasion and keep an inventory on hand. Everyone should try one tin. To me that's the fun of this hobby, trying different tobaccos. I believe Pipestud loves the Yacht too.

It’s just a nice, stout smoke with a light plum topping. I never understood the polarizing opinions regarding this one.

I enjoy RY quite a bit. I had never considered smoking it until about a year or so ago, but Brett made me a convert. I don't wax poetic about it like him, but it is an enjoyable blend

I heard that Royal Yacht doesn't age all that well ...

I’ve heard just the opposite. Troy had bid on an old tin and shared pics on another forum, the baccy turned almost black covered with beautiful crystals. Of course it’s subjective but damn it if those pictures didn’t make my mouth water. I have two tins in the cellar that I plan on getting a good ten years on before I crack the tins. It should also be noted that the aged tin was produced by Murray’s so it’s an entirely diffferent beast than what we have today. Pipestud would be the guy to chime in here, we all know he’s the captain of the Royal Yacht.

Deatmetal have you ever tried the Murray’s version?

I'm sold. I need a couple of pounds of Trout Steam anyway, and the nice kick shouldn't bother a former cig smoker much. Thanks for top, guys. I'll let you know.

Royal Yuck! In my view hell would consist of nothing but Falcon pipe smokers from Yorkshire suffering from extreme flatulence whilst munching on fish & chips with mushy peas and smoking Royal Yuck. As I have said before I would rather be buggared by a gnome wearing a barb wire condom with my ball sack stapled to the floor then ever smoke Royal Yuck!

condorlover1 :laughat: That cracks me up, mate. I think I will take my pipe smokers' classification on royal yacht a step further, adding the group of those who hate it with a burning passion. If the gnome idea came up when thinking of royal yacht, I would be very curious to ask what would your top five blends be !?

hawky454 I did not know that Royal Yacht was manufactured by anybody else but Dunhill. I may be wrong, but there was an article on the subject about royal yacht actually being an old Dunhill blend - mid 50s. Again I may got my facts mixed up ...

I have never been interested in trying it based on the descriptions I have read. After the gnome story I’m not sure if I am more or less interested in trying it. That is certainly a passionate reaction.

Dunhill hasn't really made tobacco for many years. It has outsourced their tobacco manufacturing for a long time. Others know better than I but it used to be made by Murray's and these days it is made by STG but don't quote me on that.

Good choice, I think. It's impossible to describe this much excellence; you have to experience it for yourself!

Here is my experience, take it with the usual dash of salt: the two-year-old Royal Yacht that I have developed plume, and is both sweeter and warmer in flavor. My guess is that 2-5 years pays off, but after that, diminishing returns result.

Looks to be listed as an aro though.
Technically, Royal Yacht is an aromatic because it is topped with brandy/plum/ambrosia. But it is not a sodapop aromatic like most, more a background flavor that simulates Perique without the complexities of that variety of tobacco.

Hey man, whatever your kink, it's OK by me. Not sure how it's relevant to one of the best blends ever created, but tell the gnome hello for me, if you will?

Cellar it while you can if you love it, as all too soon it will be going the way of my beloved Mephisto. :crying:

This is a good thread. Excellent reviews, commentary and words from someone who likes (loves) big ugly birds of prey with no feathers on their heads. What more could we ask?
