American or German Virginias will not satisfy, McClelland being the only exception. What you need are British-made tobaccos manufactured from predominantly African-sourced Virginias. I no longer enjoy thin Virginias without body, except perhaps in the very early morning, so I smoke predominantly UK-made tobaccos.
Sounds intriguing. Would you kindly make some recommendations by name please?

I know very little about this hobby but I know what I find satisfying. I’m bonkers for Watch City Cigar Old Dominion and 558 Flake. I also LOVE Marlin Flake but that might be too light. I find HU Flanagan very satisfying as well. Oh, and Wilke Top Hat is a pretty killer heavy English.

My current favorites in this category are:

Gawith Hoggarth - CR Flake
Wesley's - Rhodesian Blend
Gawith Hoggarth - Dark Virginia Cavendish
Samuel Gawith - Brown Flake
JF Germain - Brown Flake
JF Germain - BK Flake
JF Germain - Bridge Old Brown Flake
Gawith Hoggarth - Louisiana Flake
Gawith Hoggarth - Reunion No27 Flake
Gawith Hoggarth - Westmorland Slices
Gawith Hoggarth - Rich Dark Honeydew
Samuel Gawith - Sam's Flake
Samuel Gawith - St. James Flake & Plug
Samuel Gawith - 1792 Flake & Cob Plug
Synjeco - Bad Nun (made by Gawith Hoggarth)

I don't recommend the current Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake and Plug at the moment, as the Virginia seems to have lost some of its "oomph" lately. I'm not sure why. A notable Virginia among the German manufacturers is the Mellow Mallard (not, sadly, the new Mallard Flake which is sort of an Orlik Golden Sliced clone).

Look through the Gawith & Hoggarth offerings. They are one outfit that use these stouter virginias
I’m literally afraid of that floral, commercial cleaning fluid, public bathroom, granny’s powder stuff that I associate with that company. I know not all their products have it but I’m just so thoroughly repulsed by it that I don’t really want to go there. I bought some Coniston cut plug and nearly vomited after the charring light. It’s on me. I just need to put my fear to rest and get out there and enjoy some stout G&H products. Someday…

Try their Dark Flake Unscented or the plug version, Dark Plug. Heavy duty virginias, incidental lakeland flavor (probably from using the same equipment). Its strong enough that I cant smoke it straight. Daughters & Ryan, before it was sold, used to make a seriously stout blend called Picayune that, in similar fashion, would take several sessions to make it through a cob full of the stuff. While both of these have a wallop of nicotine (not really something I seek), they are both also very full and richly flavored.

I'll toss a few out there that I think meet the qualifications you are looking for that have not already been mentioned.

Warped - King's Stride: wonderful cigar blend with a creamy mouthfeel and heavy dose of perique.

GL Pease - Windjammer: a great navy blend that is both sweet yet rich, boozy yet refined. It has a bold flavor throughout and rewards the kind of careful, slow, contemplative smoking suitable to an after-dinner treat.

Two Friends - Deacon's Downfall: I'm not a latakia guy, so take this suggestion with a grain of salt, but I think DD would fit what you're looking for. Dark, oily, and bold.

I agree with the Gawith ropes (brown). Add Dark Birdseye, Dark Flake to that. Not sure if SG Lakeland Dark is still made but it’s a good alternative to 1792 Flake without the topping.

Any plug tobacco (3P’s and anything else you can get your hands on - Revor Plug!).

I know you don’t want anything with a topping but this thread wouldn’t be complete with mentioning Condor (plug).

A good C&D stout Burley blend also comes to mind, think Big n’ Burley.

There are a lot of good rich tobaccos out there, just gotta find the ones that work for you.

I’ll also add McConnell’s Latakia Flake (don’t let the name fool you) also Commodore Flake by Sillem’s (it’s the same thing but I heard it’s a bit cheaper if you can find it).
