It's never plume in a cigar, FYI.
Plume, which is also called bloom, is a naturally occurring phenomenon in the cigar aging process. Oils that exude from the tobacco in a finished cigar will appear as a fine white powder and can be brushed off without leaving a mark. Plume is not to be confused with mold, which has color to it and stains the wrapper.

I'll let Cigar Aficionado know that you would prefer they correct themselves, FYI.

I'd share this with them and let them decide for themselves.

Why? It's not my place to correct the world. It's an old term used by cigar smokers long before I was born. I know the difference between mold, fungus, and crystalline structures. I didn't offer the correction, you did.

It's a legit term.

This is why people never take cigar smokers seriously.

I know you said you're not looking for aromatics but Coniston Cut Plug is one of my favorite blends and it's pretty dang rich in flavor. Lots of dark fired, burley, some Virginia, and the Lakeland topping perfectly compliments the natural tobacco flavors. It's sweet and savory, with that thick, oily mouth feel to the smoke that you're describing.
Thanks for the tip. Looking to take the lakeland plunge. Have some Ennerdale just trying to decide which pipe 🤔

Petersons Perfect Plug.

A little goes a long way if your a nicotine middleweight like me, some would liken it to Irish Flake again, but I wouldn't know as I haven't tried IF yet.

Maybe even University Flake as well, try all 3 but I'd start at 3Ps for that oily, creamy mouthfeel.

I just wish I could have tried some of the extinct Irish plugs after smoking 3P's

Don't get me wrong, it is useful information. The difference between white crystals and mold is huge.

My ruction was only with the statement

LOL.

I have found in the Cigar World, especially at a cigar lounge, "experts" are always quick to "correct" someone they don't know or whom they know.

Back in the 90s, everyone I knew referred to plume as it was defined in the same way as the link I shared. Yes, we knew about mold.

The reason I was quick to respond was that I just happened to fact check myself before I wrote the following, which was meant as a joke. I couldn't quite recall if we called it bloom or plume. So, I looked it up. It's been a while since I smoked cigars regularly.
Cigar guys always ask me what "brand" I was looking for in a cigar when I walk into a cigar shop.

My reply, "Something dark and oily with white plume falling off the leaf."

To me, G&H ropes such as Black XX or Brown Boogie comes to mind for pipes.
And then, bam, I am corrected with

So, I thought, "shiiiiiit, even when I check myself, I am checked".

The point is, I have a teenage daughter, so, I am always getting "checked." LOL. One gets a bit gun shy.

But yes, your PSA advisory is important to note, especially when it comes to pipe tobacco, as "white crystals" are not something we aim for with pipe tobacco.

No harm done. Happy smokes.

I understand, I take this as a lesson to keep improving my language when communicating. I have a tough time sometimes communicating my exact thoughts on a forum. I do much better face to face.

Thank you for the valuable information you have shared.
