I may have redeveloped a taste to Latakia. Sue me! :col:
Latakia is wonderful stuff. I freak out when I think that it may not be around forever. Just think what kind of impact that would have!!! Scary! It may go the way of Syrian Latakia! ? I mean, I love all kinds of blends but pipe smoking just wouldn’t be the same without it.

Is there really a legitimate danger of this happening? I thought the Turkish government controlled this much like they do the meerschaum supply so it seems unlikely that they would let a domestic industry die.

This will be the last box of St. James Flake for me, I am fully stocked now, I reached my goal! Also took advantage of the Mac Baren sale and bought some new to me blends. One thing I noticed is that these boxes have gone up about 10 bucks since last time I was stocking up on them. Crazy!

I noticed the price increase as well. Esoterica bags are priced a bit cheaper some places.

There has been some talk of it going away, I think @chasingembers recently posted an article about it. I think @pipestud has some insider information on it. Not sure if it’s a real threat at this point in time or not. I'd have to do more research.

Nice haul. I really like Macbeth. Hopefully you do too.
Smoking my first bowl of it now and initial impression is very good. Surprised it’s not very highly rated on the review site. I’m getting a very pleasant taste not unlike “Hobnobs” cookies, which I think are rolled oat cookies. Delicious straight after opening!

A tin of 2017 Vintage Syrian. I started after Syrian Latakia was off the shelves, so this is the only way I’ll get to try it.

I’m not expecting anything in particular, I just want to know what the differences were between Syrian and Cyprian. I guess just to have the experience.

Syrian has a smoother edge, less camp fire & a wine like taste (especially aged), where as Cyprian reminds me of a campfire. I like certain blends with either Cyprian or Syrian.
