too reflexive to be easily quantified. But honestly I draw pretty lightly when lighting the pipe as well as smoking it. Big hint you do know the flame doesn't have to touch the tobacco to light it? In fact you get a cooler smoke if the flame is either not touching or barely and briefly touching the tobacco (as in shallow contact and not for long). Best to not over think a pipe but like most things pipe related what's one mans over thinking is some other guys or ladies having fun nitpicking. But asking us something like this isn't that different then asking someone how much force they use when chewing different foods. Most people aren't going to be able to say they bite into a steak 1.5 times as hard as they bite into a piece of chicken.

In actual point of fact, I was just noticing yesterday that sometimes it is easier to draw the flame to the tobacco than at other times. But since there are so many potential variables, such as temperature, humidity, pipe, tobacco, tobacco humidity, flame source, wind, that I just decided to forget all about it and enjoy a pleasant moment smoking. ??

They call them Inner tubes with pipes.. or stingers. But yes, they also help overcome the loss of pressure at altitude.

You know when you light a fire and it takes extra oxygen and smaller bits of kindling to get it started and then as it take and embers start to form, you can dampen how much air you let through and throw a log on, let it burn long and slow...I know the pipe is a bit different, but fire is fire to a certain extent.

Good luck man, no problem. Read more of my post and you'll find that I'm a bastard too.. but I'm just learning myself. Smoking a pipe is not common knowledge. It's 2022.

Everybody here had to learn how to smoke a pipe. Some of them may not admit that though. Haha
