I've had very little luck breath smoking. That could be for any number of reasons. I like to draw, and puff. So for me, my fight is with the bowl getting too hot and also getting full flavor. The best smokes I've had have been with a delicate dance of puffing...when the bowl almost goes out, a few gentle puffs to keep it going. I've gotten the best flavors out of doing it that way. I think again it just simply is however you enjoy. Good luck!

Both, but mostly the like a straw. I'll run the smoke a few times in and out of the pipe before I release the smoke from my mouth. Of course, if you're reading or your attention is on something else, breathing through your nose will have a similar effect, just not to the same degree.

Rookie move, BROBS. You have to Breath Smoke (BS) while holding the pipe at the proper Cradled Repose Angle of the Pipe (CRAP) in order to get proper cooling temperature for the smoke. Use the proper nomenclature!

And don't forget the Frank method when tamping as well (with only an artisan briar tamper, of course). If you don't do these things you are not really a pipesmoker and you are not allowed in the club. If you try to get back into the club you will be swiftly kicked in the dick.

CRAP works best while clenching a churchwarden and gives you maxxcool smoke.

so Frank, tell me your method.
It’s a sophisticated combination of modalities that involves a hair dryer, multiple species of hardwoods chiseled into various custom tools, and an air press. Honestly, I think it’s too advanced for you. The preparatory ceremony alone is outside of the sphere of comprehension for most. Selah.

It's pretty simple, don't overthink it!

Try smoking while doing something with your hands, something active so you're concentrated on it rather than the smoking itself. You'll find that you're doing this "method" unconsciously.

The Frank Method is great to learn packing as long as you don't think too hard about it.
I like to say I use the "Messy Frank Method".
He mostly just teaches the basic principles of pinch and stuff filling which leaves less leaf density around the draft hole.

It's very easy for new Pipesmokers to take the term "Packing" too literally, if nothing else it's very good to try as many different "methods" as you can starting out just to develop the motor skills. After a while the names of the methods are meaningless and packing becomes mostly intuitive.

The breathing method is the best for me. My smoke is much better, tastier. Also relaxing.
But like everything in this hobby, of course, it depends on the habits of each
