So throw out the McClelland, Gawith, and Esoterica? There would be no Castello or Dunhill pipes in the world you would have... mostly just corncobs and Sutliff.

I say there's room enough for Champaign as well as beer.
snobbery isn't enjoying fine things more then other things, it's thinking that somehow makes you a superior person and that anyone who likes "sutliff" should be laughed at and looked down upon.

I will just say it, “I am a Sutliff fan”. Why?
1. They produce the best match blends.
2. Some of their tobaccos are my favorites in a particular genre
3. Their blends are high quality in all measure (including the blends made for others).

The Match Dunhill 965 (Match 20) and the Match Dunhill Elizabethan (Match Victorian) are closer to the old versions than the current Peterson line and I much prefer them. I have plenty of their other Match blends and they do a damn fine job of producing a decent facsimile of the originals. The Match Edgewood RR deserves a specific mention here, as well.

Balkan Ii is my favorite Balkan blend (by a purist’s definition). The Match 965 is my favorite Scottish blend. 1-M is my favorite Vanilla-forward aromatic. Christmas Spice is my favorite holiday (always available) blend. AND Cringle Flake 2020 may be the best VA that I have ever smoked (and I used to manage tobacco shops in KC {and you know what that is the birth place of}. BTW the 2019 was not a bad blend either.

I should mention that, their bulk blends have been superior for years. Sutliff acquired Century Tobacco around 3 decades ago. I don’t see it stated much, but Century Tobacco (along with Lane and Peter Stokkeby) were the preeminent sources for those B&M blends that introduced many smokers to finer tobacco.

I just did a quick (meaning not necessarily totally accurate:)) count of the Sutliff branded blends that I have in my cellar. I have 35 Sutliff blends. This does not take into account any of the innumerable blends that, they produce for others.

So, yes, I believe that they do produce quality tobacco.

I've bought blending perique from several sources, including McClleand's. I recently brought in some ribbon cut blending perique from Sutliff that is exceptional. As good or better than any other.
I only recently found a few other rather desirable varietals from this venerable source.
Go ahead and laff at me.

As stated by @anotherbob, snobbery isn't that your preference is based on a better quality, it is thinking your preference reflects you choices as a person versus others. I tend to run the other direction as a human being. That is, I tend to favor all things Low Brow. My own blend of tobacco for the last four decades is a mix of Lane BCA and Sutliff Nougat. My go to pipes are an unmarked second and a beat up Paronelli that has seen better days. Cigars...I smoke seconds and lean toward the shop brands. My coffee is Folgers on most days. And when I go shopping for wine, I drive up to Ralphs and find something under $5.OO.

Do I have "fancier" things? Yeh, but I won't tell you about them. It's a little embarrassing and to be honest, I wouldn't want to be defined by those choices. I know my roots and I like where I hail from.

So, you're kind of an inverse snob??

Why laugh? Smoke what you like, and like what you smoke.

Anyone giving you shit over it is worth ignoring. It's their problem.

The Sutliff bashing thing, which has really declined since its heyday, was the product of ignorance. People are more aware nowadays that the name on the label isn't necessarily indicative of where the components come from, or who makes it.

The non-aro's I have gotten from Sutliff are great...the aromatic blends are pretty great too, though a few blends are meh to my palate. I guess that's bound to happen when you make that many blends; I am sure each one has its devoted fans.

My favorites from Sutliff are 515 RC-1 and Virginia Slices, hands down ..match Elizabethan is pretty darn tasty, too. I also have a pound or so of Vanilla Custard and Creme Brulee tucked away for when I get a sweet tooth (and y'never know when the plug could get pulled on flavored tobacco smh)

As I always say, to each their own...I'll smoke Sutliff blends anytime, though.
