I am a painter, myself. Mostly acrylics, some mixed media, and some oils. I've always been an avid admirer of Van Gogh's work. One biographer wrote, "The first time I saw Van Gogh's paintings, I loved him more than I loved my own father." A sentiment I can certainly understand, so fervently do I admire Vincent Van Gogh's work...

Genius artist plus a pipesmoker. As you can see from the very beginning of this thread he painted a lot of pipes, maybe even more than he painted flowers.
Please remember the pipe in your own works and then post here. The last twenty years is pretty close to blank in the pipe dept.

Will do. :) Someday soon, maybe I'll compose a still life featuring a couple of pipes. :puffy:

I fear we may be losing archy; she says her desire to smoke is dwindling, and is currently down to once or twice a week
You're not losing me to a reduction of smoking desire. This forum has more to offer than pipe/tobacco information. It's a community which I hold dear and cannot find in everyday, tangible people. I still look at this thread every day and look at others, too. I'm just at a point in my life where I'm finding my cornerstones less stable than originally suspected. Woe is me. I'll be posting on the forums regularly, again, in due time. All is temporary and in flux.
Ed Green is a real and true profit of art, for me, at least. Ed is my daily dose of culture. Thank you, Ed, for keeping beauty alive on this forum. And thank you, David, for your concern. You guys have meant more to me than can be deduced from this thread alone.

archy, good to hear. I know you're in flux. I agree with ed that you're a breath of fresh air on the forums, and I do like the Pudding you sent me :)
ed, did archy just call us neither everyday, nor tangible people? I may not be everyday, but am pretty sure I'm tangible! I'm so offended. Just because I'm not really David Simnett-Pratt, but a 13 year-old Ukraninan girl. Sheesh. Not tangible.
BTW, Huiselijke in the grey/brown pic with the grumpy couple means 'homely'. This has a different meaning in English than American English. In England, it means home-like, or comforting, and is a compliment. In America, it means 'plain-looking'. A girl I dated in High School once came over with her mom, and my dad said, yes, she's a homely girl, and you should have seen the glance the two of them gave each other. I about died laughing.
My dad's South African, and one day Granny (Ouma in Afrikaans) was entertaining church people, and they said the husband just started a new job. She used the Afrikaans term for salary, and asked, 'Oh, do you get a better screw at your new office?'. Also about died laughing.
